Checkin 2.00pm but room not ready untill 2.45pm.
Air conditioning unusually loud , could not sleep with it on. So an uncomfortably hot night.
Tour party arrived at around 2.30am and sound insulation so poor seemed they all showered in our bathroom.
Ten minutes of internet cost 15NZD
164NZD per night was way over the top for a room that was also basic and a little tired.
Redeeming feature was the very pleasant and efficient girl on reception when we arrived.

This is an older hotel--possibly the first of the major hotels in the area. As such, the rooms have renovated toilet/shower areas while the bedroom areas remain with the decor they originally had. This is heavy curtains and dark furniture. And, yes, there are scuff marks in places. This hotel will not appeal to people wanting a new hotel with clean lines and modern decor. However, it is smaller than the more recent hotels and has great, friendly service. It is very close to the university--I was there for a conference and the venue was five minutes walk. There is a convenience store two minutes away and a 24hour supermarket between five and ten minutes walk. The beds are pretty average but the cost is reasonable. I was a bit disappointed when I arrived but, once I got past the 1950s look of the rooms I realised that, for my purposes, the hotel was more suited than the more modern, and larger, hotels. And it has 24hour room service.

I spent a couple of nights here while attending a conference at Auckland University, which is very close by. The hotel is in a nice leafy area on the fringes of the CBD, good for wandering around and close enough to walk down to Queen Street or Britomart. My room was large with a comfortable bed and good linen, although the bathroom was small and showing its age a bit. The breakfasts were pretty average.
I'd definitely recommend this to someone looking for a reasonable priced stay close to the University or Vector Arena (which is very close).

This is an old hotel, but the website listings state its rooms have been recently refurbished, so I was looking forward to staying. We chose Copthorne because of its location close to Vector Arena - it is close - just a short walk away.

At first glance the room looked clean and tidy - but on closer inspection there were heaps of things wrong. The TV remote was broken, so the battery cover didn't stay on. The airconditioning had one setting: LOUD, so you couldn't sleep with it on. Pulling back the bedspread I found bloodstains and "gunk" from god knows what; We didn't get back to the room until 1am so too tired to ask to be moved. The bed was a king split, but the sheets were so thin you could see the mattress underneath (the tiny single mattress protectors barely covered each side of the bed).

The next morning I went to make a cup of tea and notice the spout of the jug was battered and bent out of shape from numerous attempts to force it under the sink tap - why do they design sinks you can't fill the jug in? And surely a replacement jug is not too much to ask - maybe $20?

One of the lifts didn't work properly - on the ground floor pushing the button for our floor didn't do anything - but you could push the button for the floor above to get the lift moving and then quickly select your floor on the way up.

Parking was really limited about 25 parks or so, so get in quick. No facilities to speak of e.g. pool, gym etc, but not a problem as we were out and about anyway.

What did I like? Hmm... staff at reception friendly. And easy walk to both CBD and Vector. Good sized shower with lots of nozzles, and at least the bathroom was clean.

But overall disappointing, especially for a Copthorne brand.

Auckland's own 'Fawlty Towers'. First room, although booked well in advance, was freezing cold. Heater fan, despite having ostensibly 3 settings will only work on maximum, which sounds like world war 3 has begun! Second room, similar problem + no washbasin plug. No sleep possible until 3.45 a.m. when at last the noisy revelries from the room above subsided. Do they not build hotels with concrete floors/ceilings? Wall socket in bathroom contravenes safety regs being only 12cms from the washbasin with no safety cut-out. Lavatory seat missing all its contact buffers, so one had to imitate a hovercraft coming in to land ..... Sunday evening, came back to the hotel, may be have a nightcap? The only one available would be of the 'Wee Willie Winkie' variety, as the bar was shut and all the lights out except at reception; what a welcome if a traveller or tourist had just arrived. On checkout, Monday morning, the duty manager 'explained' without apology, that there were no maintenance personnel on duty at weekends. Auckland - Supercity? Hmmm.

My sister and I stayed at this hotel for the Lady Gaga/PCD concert at Vector Arena. We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the arena and it was excellent - we could see the arena from our balcony, and there was a well-lit quick access path just 1 minute from the hotel.
It was a quick walk to town and the sky tower, close to a bus stop - very handy.
The hotel was clean, modern, customer service was excellent and friendly, room facilities were very adequate, and the restaurant food was yummy and reasonably priced.
The walls did seem quite thin - although that may just have been the fact the guests down the hall were very rowdy, but that was the only negative during our stay at the Copthorne.
It by far exceeded our expectations after reading the other reviews on this website.
I am planning on going to ACDC in February and will DEFINETLY be staying the the Copthorne Anzac Avenue!

Firstly this hotel has the smallest rooms i have ever seen! We had 2 double beds and they were about 20cm apart from each other and on the other side about 10 cm from the window. The hotels dated and old. Elevators are slow and furnishing pretty lousy. However the location is perfect for the Vector Arena which is the main reason we booked. The staff were efficent but billed us for 3 nights when we only had 2. and the buffet breakfast was good!
Parkings also a problem. Theres about 10 parks for the hotel and it was very hard to find a park.
