“Great location, but worn and noisey”
Reviewed 1 April 2013

We stayed 2 nights 13/14th March in a standard room. Initially we were allocated a room on the second floor that smelt so badly of smoking that we had to ask to be moved and were reallocated to a room on the third floor. Apparantly smoking is permitted in rooms on the second floor. So if your a non-smoker (like we are) you now know which rooms to avoid! What I find unnaceptable is that we were given a smoking room in the first place and put in the embarrasing position of having to complain.
Our room overlooked the very busy road outside and whilst it had secondary glazing this was in no way sufficient to keep out the noise from late night revellers.
The room itself and the fittings were shabby and in real need of updating in particular the bathroom that appeared to be from the 1970's.
There were two saving graces being the staff who were friendly and helpful and, in particular, the location. The hotel is very well situated for all the harbour front activities, ferries and restaurants and close to the city and it's attractions. Another advantage is cheap and regular coach travel to the airport less than an easy 5 minute walk away

Room Tip: If you don't smoke avoid the second floor.

My friends & I stayed here for 1 night & we chose to stay here primarily due to the proximity of the hotel to the viaduct - it is right across the road. This would have to be the major draw card for the hotel. Although, if you are a light sleeper, you may not want to stay here due to the noise which carries on until the early hours of the morning (but this didn't bother us). There is a 'double glazing' type of thing for the windows which is to help with the noise, but we didn't find it to be very effective (perhaps we didn't use it properly).

Given we were fortunate enough to not be paying full tariff, I could overlook many of the relatively minor faults with the room - but if I had to have paid full price, I would have been very disappointed.

As many of the reviews have stated, the hotel is a bit dated & could do with a spruce up. While this is mainly cosmetic, an update would help cement their apparent 4 star rating. The cleanliness of the bathroom left a little to be desired with mold in the grout, stains on the bath & ceiling & a rusting shower curtain rod. The rest of the room was clean though.

We requested a queen bed for the couple in the group, but they were given 2 doubles - again, not a huge issue (which we didn't bother trying to resolve) but it would have been nice if the request had been met. The beds were comfy, but the pillows were a little tired & could do with replacing.

Parking is available at the hotel at an additional rate of $24/day.

If looking for somewhere to crash after a night on the town in Auckland/The Viaduct, & you're not fussy on cosmetics of a hotel, then this is a good place to stay due to its location (I'd recommend finding a deal though). Given the opportunity again, I would probably stay elsewhere.

My wife and I stayed there for the Motorcycle Speedway GP event. We stayed at the same location last year, and had no hesitation rebooking for this year.
The views from the rooms are spectacular, and the location is convenient to transport, entertainment and eating choices.
Noise from nearby nightclubs can be disturbing on Friday and Saturday nights, but is quiet after 2 AM. Windows are double glazed and when closed restrict the noise.
The bed linen is getting a bit tired.
Overall, we recommend this venue and will be booking again next year.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the ferry terminal have better views. The higher the better.

The hotel is located across the street from the marina and ferries. Great location for activities. We took a ferry to Waiheke and the hotel was less than 5 minute walk to the ferry dock. The hotel itself is OK. The rooms are a little worn but we just slept in them. Which, was noisy because of it's location. The good and the bad. The double windows did reduce the noise but next time we'll stay elsewhere.

The hotel has a great location with views across the harbour, but it does suffer from late night noise due to its proximity to bars etc on the waterfront.
Despite this we enjoyed our stay of two nights and found the staff friendly and helpful.
We didnt have breakfast included but there is a sizeable discount available if you add it to your bill.
Some of the decor is a little dated.

I stayed last night in Auckland after a long journey in NZ. The location is great and the view from room is beautiful.Breakfast is good. My bathroom room is a bit smelly because the crack in sink. The room shows aged but comfortable enough plus Huge TV screen.

Room Tip: Walking distance to the fish market and nice restaurant around the hotel.

The location could not be any better. Walking distance to lots of restaurants. The room was large, clean, had a view of the harbour but very outdated. Breakfast was good. The price was very good value considering the perfect location, but since the hotel needs an uplift, I believe it was rightly priced.
