“It Did The Job”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

We stayed in room 909 on the ninth floor over looking the harbour. Great views, shame the window ledge was too high as it prevent you from seeing the view from a seated position. The views haloed over come the average state of the room!

The room was quite tired looking and definitely could have used a refurb. Apart from that it was okay and served the purpose of just a place to sleep the night. Location couldn't be faulted within a stone throw from the harbour and a multitude of restaurants. We stayed a few nights earlier at the Stamford Plaza just a couple of minutes walk up the road and even though it cost more if you were planning on staying in Auckland for more than two nights it would probably be worth the extra money for a bit more luxury.

BEST hotel by far for being based to explore central Auckland and very close to harbour ferry terminal (for outer islands). Easy to board ones cruise ship as the terminal is no more than 120 metres from front lobby.

All rooms face the harbour

The hotel is a bit faded and the bar's happy hour was a joke but otherwise, no complaints. Our room had a beautiful view of the harbor and it was high enough to avoid most of the street noise. The location cannot be beat as it is close to the Viaduct restaurant district and the CBD. The front desk staff was knowledgeable and told me about a free bus we could take to the Auckland Museum rather than paying for a taxi. WiFi in room was poor but there are computers available in the lobby for guests' use

One day, we walked across the street to the ferry wharf and caught a ferry to Devonport. Devonport is a very walkable town and has some nice spots for lunch. It is also home of the new New Zealand Navy Museum which was quite engaging and educational.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor to avoid the street noise. I think all the rooms have good views o...

Stayed in this hotel for three nights early January and found it a very pleasant place to stay. Ideal location next to ferry terminals, close to shops and restaurants in the viaduct area. This hotel is a little dated but very clean and tidy, breakfasts excellent choice of fare. Understand it is due to be renewed/rebuilt at the end of this year. Will be interesting to see the new building. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Stayed in a more modern hotel in Auckland near the sky tower at the end of Jan but preffered the Copthorne for atmosphere.

Room Tip: Higher floors at front for best views. We had a suite....

As a base for your trip to Auckland this is great value. The location couldn't be better, beautiful views and so handy to Central Auckland. You are right in town and close to buses, ferries and trains (when they are working!).
We did request an inter-connecting room for our family of five and were initially disappointed that we were not initially allocated one, especially as we had booked three months in advance. However, the duty manager did apologise and managed to get us into interconnecting rooms from the second night of our stay. However, the beds were not nearly so comfortable as the first rooms we had, which was a pity, and this did highlight that not all of the rooms have the same level of comfort.
The flat screen TVs were a hit with the family and the size of the rooms were not at all bad. The cleanliness of the bathrooms could have been better but this was probably down to the fact that the rooms and bathrooms were a little 'tired' and could do with a refresh. That aside, the stay was very good and the facilities on offer suited us well; the gymnasium, sauna and location in particular

For our needs during our stay this hotel was perfect, the location was fabulous, throwing open your curtains to see the beautiful harbour was worth the sleep in the soft king size bed. The room was well appointed for the age of the hotel and the breakfast buffet was the usual fare. Enjoyed our stay but a little bit of a make over would enhance the next visit.

I stayed at the Copthorne Auckland HarbourCity again last year. In my first visit back in 2010 they got me into a room early (my flight arrived at 6:00 AM) and even upgraded my room to a suite.

This time was good as well. The room was smaller but still gave a beautiful view of Auckland Harbour. The hotel is situated right across the street from the ferry terminal and within walking distance of shoppes, great restaurants and both the marina and the Sky Tower (albeit up a steep hill).

I had a real problem with my luggage but they were able to provide thick cloth tape to do a patch-up to get me home to Canada. I absolutely loved my first visit - this one was almost as good (even without the upgrade).

Room Tip: I'm sure that it costs a little extra but try to get a harbour view room.
