“Little things that count”
Reviewed 2 May 2012

The housekeeping in this hotel was excellent. I am recently bereaved, and although I never asked anything from housekeeping staff they were able to work out what things to move, what to move back, and what not to touch at all.

I ended up leaving a tip of about NZ$30 (which was all the NZ$ I had on me before I left for the airport) for the housekeeping staff together with a thank you note. Sometimes it is the little things that count, and the excellent job done by housekeeping at this hotel made all the difference to my stay at what was a sad time to be travelling for me.

Room Tip: Close walk to the Viaduct, which is where all the cool restaurants and bars are. Short $15 cab ride...

Really enjoyed our stay at the Heritage. Good value at $NZ189 incl parking , for a harbour view room on top floor. Cannot fault our stay - everyone was helpful , friendly, room and bathroom was top quality for the price - especially the bed ! WOW I loved the bed - Im going to try and buy one 'Sleepyhead Commercial Equisite Latex'. Room was very well appointed and very clean. Did I mention the bed. Go for it !

Room Tip: Ask for 6th floor , north facing , so you get harbour view with no-one above. Negotiate parking in...

This hotel was gorgeous. Great location, close to so many restaurants. The room was lovely, and the bed and pillows were so soft and comfortable. Very nice room. Had room service and the quality of the food was excellent, and the room service lady was very friendly. I was there for one night on business, and found the front reception staff to be extremly polite, friendly, quick and efficient.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 4th floor, the room was fine, other rooms have a view of the harbour apparently whic...

Thanks for a great weekend stay. Love the location - so central. Excellent facilities and very family friendly - the kids loved the special easter treat bag. Staff were friendly and the service was fantastic. Would definitely stay again.

As a family of 5, we stayed in one of the suites which had a harbour view. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the kitchen area was well equipped.
The only niggle we had, was that we had to climb a flight of stairs with our luggage to get to our room. This wasn't too much of a drama for us, but did pose the question of how other guests who were not as mobile would cope, given the fact that we we not advised that the room was not on the same floor as the elevators!
The staff at reception were very accommodating and helpful.
We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, child friendly as well as interesting enough to satisfy the adults in our party.
Overall a pleasant stay, the hotel is central to the Viaduct and Sky tower, and suited our needs well.

The old section of the hotel is a conversion of a former department store. Which is perhaps the reason it features beautiful timber floorboards and massive timber joists. Very interesting however the way the conversion has been done with quirky shaped rooms leaves the impression of a rabbit warren.

We were allocated a room with lighting so dim it would have satisfied the blackout in Britain 1942. This was after requesting a transfer from the original cupboard they booked us into.
Our new room came complete with 1 wooden chair for the 2 of us to share.
Slow support from housekeeping, I guess it was unreasonable of us to request replacement coat hangers, given there were 5 broken hangers in the closet.

Breakfast and evening meals mass produced and regrettably lacking any signs of nourishment.

A general air of weariness, this is a hotel that richly deserves a 2 star rating.

Room Tip: Try another hotel

Dear MarLinny,

Thank you for your feedback, it is disappointing to learn that you felt your stay with us was poor. I have looked into the issues around your initial room allocation and as you were apart of group and perhaps did not make the reservation yourself its unclear as to where the misunderstanding in room types has occurred. I have shared your feedback with the team in an effort to address the aspects of your stay that were not upto our required standard. If you would like to discuss this matter further please do feel free to contact me directly via email jamesb@heritagehotels.co.nz.

Kind Regards

James Billing

Not much to say as it was only one night and I didn't eat or drink at the hotel.

The room was nice without being amazing. Perhaps a bit of an odd layout with the wardrobe etc at the end of the bed, and a desk to the side of the bed, rather than the other way around. TV in the corner of the room next to the wardrobe.

The bathroom was nice and big. Friendly and efficient check in and check out. A free drinks voucher was provided for the bar, not sure if that was a normal thing or perhaps because of who I work for.
