I posted a review back in June about this hotel with a mostly positive experience. The only negative was the inadequate internet facilities for a business traveler.

Forward 5 months (and a Rugby World Cup renovation) later and wow, what an improvement

The staff at the front desk are exceptional as always and its great to see the management improve on this even more with some very clever hirings

I was pleasantly surprised to see Kevin the doorman on arrival by taxi. Kevin was from another top hotel in Auckland but his experience, customer service skills and warm personality is the sort of 1st impression you want when arriving from the disaster that is the gauntlet from Auckland Airport to CBD. His addition to the Skycity Team is welcomed

The changes to the hotel are subtle but noticeable. As another TA member has said. The macaroons, while not necessary are a brilliant touch and its something i have never seen before at any hotel in the world

Internet Access is fast (always a bonus) and reasonable for what you get with the new plans

My only minor issue is the breakfast in Level 7. Having to pay for a coffee on top of the breakfast rate is over the top in my opinion as the breakfast rate is already high at $NZ37.

As an aside, my stay for the 2 nights was cheaper than the Rydges just down the road. Book at the right time and the room rates are very competitive

Highly Recommended

Room Tip: Don't bother paying for the Harbour View Rooms. Auckland aint not Sydney!

Dear Alessiman

Thank you for your recent review on tripadvisor regarding your stay at SKYCITY Grand Hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to write about all the enhancements we have made at the hotel, a hotel's journey is never over, and we are always looking at ways to evolve our product and enhance our guests stay, and I am tickled pink you love the macaroons, a favourite addition of mine as well.

Our top 'action point' was to improve the internet offering which I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed, changing over a whole hotel's infrastructure whilst large in challenge, our customers are reaping the rewards, which we are delighted with.

We are now looking at new solutions for entertainment within the room, as well as a refurbishments for the not to distant future.

Thank you for your feedback on the breakfast pricing, it is a point that I shall be discussing with the team this week.

I have passed your lovely feedback to the team, and come back soon.

Warm regards

The rooms here were a bit small for our family of three, more for a business traveller. The hotel has a good vibe to it. Staff was quick on their feet and helpful. The macroons on offer at front desk in the evening were fantastic.
The variety of teas and coffees made us feel pampered. In a city with steep roads, this hotel is very well located yet far enough from the madness of queens street.
Beware Auckland sleeps latest by 10 pm. eateries close down. there are a few party places that go on till later but they are far and few.

Lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us, and that you enjoyed the macaroons and the staff were helpful, I have passed that feedback on.

We do have large suites in the hotel, and the next time you come back please enquire about them, as the do sleep very comfortably a family of three.

As we move into summer, more retaurants are open later in the evening, especially the restaurants in the CBD.

The shower still floods the floor. This stay was during the Gas problems so breakfast was only cold, and there was limited room service, and we were asked to use the only the towels we had to. But the Skycity Grand is always clean, and they staff are there should you need them. But the shower still floods the bathroom floor and the floor of the shower is very slippery. But is still my favourite Auckland Hotel

Room Tip: Ask for Harbour view, high floor

Dear mummy_8Melbourne

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review on tripadvisor regarding your stay at SKYCITY Grand Hotel.

Thank you for raising the issue regarding the shower doors, this is the first its come to my attention, so I have scheduled a meeting with my property services executive to investigate this further, so thank you for that feedback.

We also have 3 new restaurants at the hotel, plus a new internet offering, refurbishment of level 7 deck area and about to embark on refurbishment programme.

Your stay was unfortunately when Auckland had the major gas problem, but unlike many hotels, we were still able to deliver hot water to all of our guests which was a bonus, but unfortunately we could only deliver continental breakfast due to the requests of our gas suppliers to keep the gas off.

I am glad SKYCITY Grand hotel is your favourite hotel in Auckland.

This was the final leg of my honeymoon having stayed here in mid-November 2009 (me being a lazy son of a gun, I finally get round to writing the review). Staff at all levels were courteous and professional. The room was fabulous with all mod cons and lovely views of Auckland Harbour - they even gave us a wedding card (which we still have). The bed was huge, as well as hugely comfortable. There was also a huge range of bathroom toiletries for both sexes. Pool, spa and fitness suite were great - can't complain. We used the restaurants and bars in the main Sky City complex (our funds were near-depleted as it was the tail-end of the holiday) which were of a good standard. Highly recommended is the "Dusky Dolphin" in the casino bar!

Concierge service was also great and the staff were more than happy to hold our luggage during our last day in NZ following check-out (which saved money given the rates the hotel charges for late check-out).

Accommodation-wise it was the highlight of the holiday. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Get a harbour view room, and scour the internet for a good deal (they are out there, and you'll...

I recently stayed at the Sky Grand Hotel with several girlfriends - our annual get together.
Since my last stay it is clear the Grand has been re-furbished, providing rooms of superior quality.
I could not fault our stay in any way with the rooms, staff and service of excellent standards.
This was certainly one of our better annual weekends and we will definitely be returning in the not too distant future!
I have no reservations in recommending this Hotel to anyone looking for a 5 star Hotel and an overall memorable experience.

Decent quality hotel made good by the service. The staff are excellent from the front door through to housekeeping. The facilities are functional with the exception of the dining choices which are excellent. Peter Gordons "Dine" was a little dissappointing as it is somewhat over fussy. The Grill is excellent, but the star is the Depot, Al Browns version of New Zealand Tapas. The thing thats missing from the hotel is somewhere cosy to sit and have a coffee or a drink.

Room Tip: Rooms that dont overlook the Sky City next door are quieter
