“Fabulous service and facilities”
Reviewed 1 April 2010

We stayed at the Skycity Grand after having 2 nights at Skycity and the 2 were completely different experiences. The service at the Grand was fantastic, fast checkin, extremely helpful concierge, lovely room. The room at Skycity was slightly larger than the Grand but the service was so much better. Everyone was helpful at this hotel, if we had bags someone went out of their way to assist, doors were opened and people spoke to you. We enjoyed cocktails in the lobby bar which were lovely. The only downside was the smallish tv which looked tiny compared to the one at Skycity however we were there to holiday and not watch tv so this is a minor issue. Would highly recommend this hotel to those who want quality service.

Love it - our favourite place to stay. Live on Waiheke Island so enjoy staying here when off the island for the night. The kingsize bed's literally are "Heavenly" and always guarantee a fabulous nights sleep. Service is always fantastic and location is right smack in the middle of the city. Highly recommend.

The SkyCity served our needs well. The room was large and clean with nice views of the harbor. The bathroom was nicely sized as well and generally we had few complaints about the hotel other than the insanely high prices charged for Internet and the almost pre-historic looking tube TV in the room. In an otherwise new(ish) looking hotel, the TV was just odd. Also odd was that room service ends at 10.30 PM.

The gym was tiny and there is no real outdoor space except a mostly shady terrace. The service at the hotel was very friendly but when we dined at Belotta across the street (part of the SkyCity hotel) the service was disinterested at best. That said, we would stay at the SkyCity Grand again.

Stayed in Room 1801, with great harbour views. Room was located next to office building, so any relaxing on the sofa, with the curtains open, could result in you being viewed by bored staff at the ASB Tower next door.
Room was big, but cost $NZD240 a night, for 2 nights.
Initial booking was a bit rough, with booking details not e-mailed, as requested. A follow up from me two days later resulted in my message being left on voicemail, and an e-mail reply a minute later - with no covering note explaining the delay in sending my booking details.
Shower in bathroom was dirty - was cleaned on requested, but difficult to notice much difference, with the soap scum still remaining on the shower glass.
Cream-coloured carpet was dirty, with nail polish spills.
Checkout was challenging, as dispute over bar tab, and a challenge to pay by cash rather than credit card.
$5 flat white coffee in foyer was far too hot, used nasty beans, and served in too large a cup - terrible waste of the beautiful La Marzocco coffee machine being used so poorly.
Having said the above, I appreciated the follow up e-mail on my stay, the next day.
I would stay again, as a great view, and central location.

Had a weekend at the casino so booked the hotel for the location. Excellent customer service - can't fault it at all - from the valet to the concierge and the receptionist and the reception area is very grand. The room was a one bedroom unit and very comfortable with a great view of the Sky Tower and harbour. One thing though, I had expected there to be cutlery and crockery and maybe a microwave in the room. There was only a couple of glasses, cups and teaspoons to make tea and coffee. Ate out most nights but ordered breakfast through room service on our last morning - very nice. Would definitely stay there again.

Overall a good choice. We booked a harbour view room situated on the top floor- amazing view.
The room was very comfortable which was great as we had major jet lag so needed somewhere to chill out and recover.
The only slight negative about it is that the hotel isn't really set up for early morning arrivals despite being near a major international airport.
We were able to use the gym showers but I had to half empty my case in the lobby to find my stuff before going to use them. Also whilst I was in the shower there was nowhere to leave my valuables and there was no hair dryer.
Finally if you want to use wifi on your phone it's not possible. They are only set up for it to be used with a computer.
Still if you are not flying in early and don't care about wifi then it's a very smart place to stay! If you care about wifi just go to the library and use wifi for free instead.

Dear MazRGL
Thank you for your positive review - much appreciated!
We do offer both early arrival (between 11am and 2pm) and pre-registration (very early arrivals before 11am) options for those travelling into Auckland on early flights.

The gym showers are offered, however they are unfortunately not designed as an alternative to a guest room. We always recommend our guests advise us of an early arrival and confirm one of the more comfortable options.

Useful point regarding the wifi on your phone - we will certainly investigate with our 3rd-party Internet provider.
Thank you again
