“Great collection of NZ art and artists”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Even if you're not a art lover or enthusiast it's worth a quick trip. I was strapped for time and spent around 1.5hrs despite thinking 30minute would be sufficient. Got mesmerized by the art.

Even if you just want to have a quick peak, worth a look. Free entry, donations accepted.

“Impressive Collection, Spectacular Architecture”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

I'm not much for art galleries but I must say I was very impressed by Auckland Art Gallery. There are many interesting pieces from all over the world to be seen.

The one hour free tour at 11:30 and 1:30 every day is definitely helpful to understand the artists and the displays.

“Take the free tour”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Admission to this renovated space is free, with free one-hour walking tours of its main attractions. It's facade is contemporary, trimmed with indigeneous woods, and featuring broad windows facing lovely adjacent Albert Park. Most of the art is local, although the guide book promised some european masters, they were not available. There were some fanciful contemporary exhibits featuring huge colorful cartoon characters, but the most memorable art was of Maori chiefs and wives--paintings that faithfully represented their intricate facial tattoos.
