Although the actual art was not exciting, the new addition is magnificent. The old building is lovely as well and it's fascinating to see how the two have been combined. Some of the NZ landscape art and portraiture is interesting. The cafe is great.

This is a small art museum located in the heart of the city. Unlike the Aukland Museum, its art is paintings and photographs of both Maori and "European" origin. It is small and I'm sure it is often overlooked but it is well worth a visit if you have the time.

In all the time I have spent in NZ, I had never been to the Auckland Art Gallery until this week. The entrance to the Art Gallery is absolutely stunning and the entire building is gorgeous. The size of the gallery is perfect in that it is not too overwhelming. You could spend an hour here and feel like you have had a chance to see everything and of course you could easily spend much more time. It is located in downtown Auckland near the University and Queen Street. The cafe has great food and coffee and it has a beautiful light filled eating area towards the front of the building. We thoroughly enjoyed our short visit here.

First time I have been back to the art gallery since it had its 'make-over'. The interior feels spacious and filled with light, and access is easy. The ladies on the desk were very helpful and friendly, and the little shop has some great stock. A good place to spend a couple of hours.

The visit was suggested by a friend to fill in time before a later meeting. Finding the gallery by car was easy (with Ipad navigator) but because it is located near the Auckland University there is plenty of competition for the street paid parking.

The timber entry to the gallery is quite stunning and there was no admission charge the day the visited. Staff were helpful, welcoming and pointed us in the right direction to see the current displays (which change regularly). The gallery had interesting works by NZ and overseas artists, all well hung and lit.

A cafe is available if required.

Like many galleries and museums it requires a number of visits to fully appreciate the content and will therefore be on our list for future visits to Auckland. A very pleasant park is adjacent for those wanting to catch some sun and air.
