“Great for the kids”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We went in the school holidays. The kids played bingo were they had to find pieces of art work in the gallery. The staff were very helpful and encouraging and told us to visit the outdoor play area upstairs which was cool. Then the kids made masks to colour in and take home. Excellent coffee in the café. My advice... Get the bus in as parking is expensive in town...

“Drawn to this building by the architecture”
Reviewed 4 August 2014 via mobile

We were walking through Auckland looking for something to do and spied a building with interesting architecture. On further investigation we realised that it was the Art Gallery.
Free entry.
Great variety of art on display and even if you are not a big follower of art you will find lots of variety and interesting art. The gift shop is worth a visit as well even if you just have a browse through there.

“CULTURE and NZ ART”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

For many years I was a member of the AAG and used the members lounge as my Auckland Club, until the refit. Now completed, the Museum has a wonderful collection of iconic Kiwi Art and hold wonderful visiting Exhibitions. WELL WORTH A VISIT as it is not a vast museum, cosy and interesting

“Amazing building with plenty to see”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

I'm not a massive art fan. I'd rather go to a museum or a photography exhibition. However, you can't fail to be impressed by the Auckland Art Gallery. From the moment you lay eyes on the world building of the year (2013) it's a feast for your eyes.

You are better timing your visit to coincide with an exhibition that you're interested in but there's normally something going on that's interesting.

“Quirky, Historical, Abstract”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

The Art Gallery is a place to go to after visiting the shops of Queen Street just nearby. Admissions are free, with friendly and helpful staff introducing the facilities and exhibitions currently in the art gallery. In it comprises art pieces of various forms and themes, such as Maori culture, development and progress of New Zealand art. Artifacts and paintings will bring you closer to understanding and appreciating New Zealand and the Maori. A very well spent time in the gallery and will surely visit it in every trip to Auckland.
