“Beautifully landscaped & just the right size”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

The animals are well presented and taken care of. I noticed that there are no shows that degrade and give the wrong message to kids of how animals behave, despite the fact that they are all under captivity.

The layout is well organized and decorated, sometimes makes me feel like in a theme park with the themed houses and props all over!

The Watering Hole has a fair selection of food to keep us from hunger and the seating is adequate although I can't imagine how visitors will survive when the weather turns bad.

The number and variety of animals and the circuit is practically sized that most people will find it a breeze to finish so you won't feel like having to rush through and miss anything.

Highly recommended for visitors to Auckland.

“Great place for kids with friendly staff”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

I'd definitely recommend going to the Zoo for a look. You can get here via bus (about 10 mins walk) or Hop On Hop Off bus.

There is a cafe out the front where you can buy food and souvenirs.

We spent about 2 hours and got to see some cool animals especially the Kiwis. You can't take photos of the Kiwis which is a shame.

There was also heaps of other cool animals such as giraffes, lions, seals (we saw them being fed), flamingoes, rhinos, birds, turtles, monkeys... the whole works!

We also managed to see a big elephant as we were walking in which was awesome.

It's a long walk but plenty of drinking fountains availble to refill.

We were lucky as we arrived after the zoo was reopened from a storm so very few people around.

Definitely recommend to go and have a look especially the Kiwis.

“Fun zoo!”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

I visit a lot of zoos and wildlife parks. This one is actually much nicer than I expected! For one, it is larger than I realized, giving the animals plenty of room to roam. There is also a great variety of animals there. I definitely recommend feeding the giraffes!

“Peek inside the Animal Kingdom”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

this is a quint essential little zoo that gives you a great snapshot of the wild and lets you experience a bit of it. As soon as you enter, your photos are clicked with a green background, preparing you for your memorabilia of the visit. The very first exhibit leaves you spell bound as you have an open area with giraffes, zebras n ostriches roaming raising your expectation beyond the roof, as you proceed, there are many little things to notice along the way, like the animal foot prints in concrete, the whale bone entrance to the otter n penguin enclosure etc. To make it more interactive, the zoo has probably left no stone unturned. As you pass the first few enclosures, we heard the lion bellow, and wow that was quite an experience. One could hear the bellow on the other side of the zoo. The experience was one of a kind, but they could definitely make it better as by the time you exit, there seems to be some think lacking. But if you taking kids along with you, they are going to have a gala time and wont stop talking about it for atleast a week...

“Just keeps getting better”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 via mobile

No matter how many times i visit Auckland Zoo it surprises me with new initiatives.
It is great to see Staff thinking outside the box and making interesting, thoughtful, fun and relevant areas. Most of the animals appear happy and interested. There is nothing worse than seeing a bored animal.

San Diego Zoo has nothing on this - makes me proud to be a kiwi. Well done!!
