Stayed at this modern, chic hotel over the weekend with six other couples. We all paid different rates from a variety of websites ranging from $97 to $135 for the lead in superior grade room. Wotif was the cheapest as it turned out to be the secret 4*+ hotel. The location was excellent, handy to Sky City, The Viaduct, Civic theatre & Queen St, but it is jammed in a back street area and rooms have zero outlook unless you pay extra for a harbour view. In fact, two of our rooms had windows so high you couldn't see out of them unless you stood on a chair. These two rooms (particularly room 910) were quite claustrophobic and had a completely different feel to the other rooms with floor to ceiling windows. However, the outlook from these rooms looked straight into the apartment block across the narrow street so definately pay for an upgrade if a view is important to you. On the plus side, this hotel would be the quietist I have ever stayed in due to it's location off the busy streets.

The rooms were modern, very clean and well equipped. Some had a normal bathroom with shower over bath, but others had a wash basin outside of the small bathroom which only had a shower. The bed was very, very comfortable. That appeared to the the only difference between superior and deluxe categories.

Breakfast was average, but more than adequate. The usual scambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, baked beans, cereals, fruit, pastries, fruit juice and the bonus of coffee shop (additional charge) to set you up for the day.

We all agreed that it was a great hotel for the price and we would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room overlooking Federal St if possible. Avoid the floor with the function room on it as it is very noisy when party goers leave. Avoid room 910.

We have just stayed one night (Saturday)at Rydges Hotel in Federal Street Auckland.
We found the staff very nice and helpful. We had got the room at a special rate which included a fully cooked breakfast. This rate was appropriate for the room,(which was clean, and roomy(,the King superior room)We probably would not pay full price for this room .Be aware that there is an extra charge for the car park.$20, or $30 to use the valet service ,which is ok considering the price of parking in Auckland and the rip off 'towies" that prowl like sharks.
The closeness to the central city is a plus for us and we would stay at this hotel again.

We were booked through the tour operator. The location was good, in the sense that the harbour was not too far. The Sky Tower is only a few blocks away.
The room was good, but the bathroom could have been better. The shower area lead to the main bathroom floor and got preety wet on using the shower. There was no shower tray or partition between the shower and the main bathroom.

Recent 2 night stay on holidays. Easy walk to Viaduct, wharf, Skytower and shopping district. Staff were very helpful with good local knowledge. Loved the beds, pillows good too. The room was a bit tight but enough for the two of us. A few scuffs here and there on walls but very comfortable stay. $22 for parking at the carpark across the road (per exit- we parked for 3 days so still only $22)
