location is good- 2 mins from sky city. reception quick and friendly. Room a good size, fab bed very comfy and all the usual things you would expect in a business hotel.
free wireless connection but beware calling cards- we had a card to use and were charged a lot as the only calling cards that are free have an 0800 prefix. We were charged $28 NZD for this as were usinga local number.
A good standard room and proper business hotel efficency. would recommend but not for a luxury getaway.

It’s great to read of another very satisfied reviewer in regards to the location of Rydges Auckland, especially with the Sky Tower only one block away. Your favourable comments on the quick and friendly reception team and the good size rooms and very comfortable beds are all excellent things that Rydges Auckland truly represents. Supporting comments of all the hard work that the team commit in their positions is always greatly appreciated – thank you.

Yes, calling cards can be very expensive, especially if you are not familiar with the country you are travelling in. What you experienced is unfortunately the case in all locations in New Zealand, its only the 0800 numbers that are a 100% free phone call.

Hotel looks old
Reception is bad and not helpful Room service staff do not do a good job as the room is still dirty and bed linen is either not all changed or is dirty prior to being used with marks.
Concierge do not know any places in nz and are not helpfull at all.
It seems all of them are young boys with no knowledge of local landmarks or restaurants.

I must admit I am surprised by your review; particularly the point that the hotel looks old when only in the last 4 month was the completion of a very extensive multimillion dollar refurbishment and extension that involved the accommodation rooms, restaurant, bar and lobby; nonetheless I’m sorry it did not meet your expectations.

Your comments on the reception being bad and the room service staff not doing a good job is of a real concern for me. Both these areas are fundamental in ensure that all guests have a pleasant stay, but it’s obvious that we need to improve in this area.

The concierge team at the hotel is very knowledgeable of products, restaurants and services within the Auckland region however their knowledge would be limited when enquiries are made for outside of this region, again please accept my apologies that they were unable to assist you.

Your review is appreciated and taken seriously, as this is the only way that we can continue to improve on the experience that we offer our guests.

It would be our pleasure to welcome you back where you can see the improvements made.

Arrived at hotel at 0200hrs-no-one came to help us get our luggage despite the fact that there were 2 staff at reception with no guests around. Had to find our own luggage trolley etc. Paid a cash bond as we had pre-paid for stay. Harbourview-what harbourview?? Saw an office building and am sure we were not in a reburished room as they beds were the worst sleep we had in our 2 weeks stay around NZ. We stayed for 3 nights - would go out for the day and the room would not be serviced when we would get in around 4pm with 2 tired children(so would have to go and sit in foyer till it was done). requested some crockery from housekeeping - well we should have requested CLEAN crockery as what was delivered had baked on food. Spoke to duty manager who really couldn't give a damn and just eventually (after long wait) sent up more. Sheets not changed during stay - could go on and on. On check-out had to wait 20 mins for someone to go and check we hadn't raided the mini bar despite the fact we hadn't touched at all during stay and us telling them we hadn't had any. got an email from the hotel asking us about stay etc after we had departed - told them all of this and would have expected a response to out obviuos unhappiness - but zilch, nil, nada, nothing but silence-they have your money and must be used to poor reviews. Stay somewhere else

Your review is alarming for me on several fronts but firstly I must thank you for taking the time to write your experience down, as it’s only with myself knowing these concerns that prompt changes can be made to the experience offered at Rydges Auckland to other guests.

It appears that you arrived off a late international flight and to be greeted with no assistance is unacceptable and goes against the core focus at Rydges Auckland, that being - provide a very genuine and caring level of service to all guests, all the time.

You will be pleased to know that Rydges Auckland has under gone a detailed audit of all rooms to ensure that the rooms that have a harbour views are the only rooms with harbour view in their name. You will notice that Rydges Auckland hotel has also had the word ‘Harbourview’ removed from the name of the hotel, this was all part of this detailed audit that was conducted. So I’m confident now that what you experienced previously will not reoccur.

Your comment on the comfort of the beds is a concern, usually the review of Rydges Auckland beds are very favourable; I apologise that they did not satisfy your own desire for comfort on this occasion.

The concerns with housekeeping not providing clean utensils is unacceptable and is a matter that will be followed up with, they will also be made aware of the poor level of efficiency with still having room serviced at 4pm. The Manager on duty that day has been addressed re your experience and again I apologise for their actions, this matter will not reoccur and they are very clear on that.

Lastly I apologise for the response time, I was not aware of your experience when you stayed which does raise another concern about the flow of communication within the hotel. I can assure you that I will be getting to the bottom of that also.

I can complete understand your frustration and disappointment from this experience, obviously I can’t change this but I would like to welcome you back to Rydges Auckland in the future where we have the chance to demonstrate the level of service that we are truly proud of.

We are currently staying at this hotel. The décor is contemporary and fresh looking. The room (Deluxe Harbour King) is bright and comfortable. Bathroom, however, is a bit disappointing: it seems that the room itself has been refurbished quite recently but not the bathroom. We are finding the location to be convenient but parking charges are racking up. We agree with the previous reviewer’s comments that ‘harbour view’ stretches the imagination even from the 13th floor of the hotel.

The main disappointment so far is the service with the reception being understaffed on most occasions. After spending a busy day out and about we came back to find that even by about 3 pm the room has not been serviced. Such things happen. However, it is how they are addressed that distinguishes good hotels from those ‘simply ordinary’ ones. The duty manager’s response was that we could stay in the room whilst it was being cleaned rather than offer a complimentary coffee in the café whilst house cleaning was sent up or indeed just apologise.

It is pleasing to receive reviews that comment on the positive decor and ambience of the hotel, especially after such an extensive refurbishment. All rooms, foyer, restaurant and bar in the hotel underwent this refurbishment however minimal changes were applied to the bathrooms, so yes we take your point on board. I can say that the next large refurbishment will certainly involve the bathrooms in the guest rooms.

The location of the hotel is simply excellent everything is within walking distance, we are very fortunate to have such an superb location in New Zealand largest city, with so much to offer.

Your points with the reception being understaffed is a genuine concern, as providing quality service is the backbone of the industry that we operate in, I apologise that we did not met these requirements. Furthermore to hear that your room was not serviced prior to 3pm is not acceptable and to be not offered anything is certainly not the standards of guest service that we strive to achieve at Rydges Auckland, again please accept my apologies.

I do hope that your recent experience at Rydges Auckland can be overlooked; we would appreciate the opportunity to welcome you back where we could provide you with the level of service that we do pride ourselves on.

Nice hotel in general. Clean. VERY comfortable beds. Not much of a view except the Sky Tower, but in a good location. Had the same experience as previous comment in sharing the lift with cleaning trolleys, and having to wait while domestic staff called to one another via the 'back' door of the lift. No assistance offered with our bags on arrival.

Your review is appreciated but the nature of one point does concern me, that being about hotel staff utilising the lift for their duties and not providing it for guests or making sure guests have the main preference of where the lift stops. I can assure you this matter will be addressed with all departments.

Your point about no assistance with luggage is also a concern and this is certainly not the level of service we maintain at Rydges Auckland, I do apologise for this and again the appropriate department will be addressed to ensure this remains as an isolated incident.

I’m pleased that you found the hotel to be clean and very comfortable, especially the beds – the beds are specially designed for Rydges and yes they get many favourable comments and reviews.

A nice place to stay. Good location and a sea/mountain view. Wouldn't say that the service was out of the world but atleast they were out of my way. The restaurant attached with the hotel excellent food. But you should be prepared to wait for an hour before it is served to you. Internet was very slow. A very well organised business suite. A very good selection of breakfast but would've preffered it be complimentary. bottom line for the price its not worth it, a bit cheaper then wouldnt mind staying there again.

Very disappointed with the location of this hotel. Well, yes I guess that from our 7th floor "Harbour View" room for which we obviously paid a premium you could see the harbour a quarter of a mile away through the tower blocks in between. The room though was wonderful and the bed the best we have experienced in a hotel That didn't though make up for what is poor management and staff training. All the Guest elevators are used by the staff to carry out their work which means you find yourself sharing them with plastic sacks of rubbish or being held up by staff carrying various stuff or, on occassions holding the doors whilst they shout to colleagues. Consequently the elevator carpets are filthy and one of them has two doors which invariably opens on to the service area with all the filthy equipment rather than the foyer. Why doesn't the management just dedicate that one as a service elevator and be done with it! We wanted a drink at 1.30pm and there was no staff about, neither behind the bar or the coffee counter, sorrt the "Barista on the corner hen we eventually tracked a staff member down by going to the kitchen door my wife was served her hot chocolate in a paper cup because the staff member was "on her own and hadn't had chance to wash the glasses"! If you want a good room in downtown Auckland then they have them, if you want that view with decent service and a good atmosphere then look elswhere....and it ain't cheap!

I have to agree when I read your review the need to "mmmmmmmmmmm".

I am dissapointed that the service standard you experienced in trying to obtain a afternoon drink in our lobby area was not acceptable. I can assure you this is not our normal service standards. I would be interested to know the dates of your stay so I can review the rosters to ensure this does not happen in the future. I have also addressed this with the team to re train and explain service standards and the customer impact.
