“Did not dissapoint - lovely”
Reviewed 24 May 2011

Stayed for 2 nights in June 2010. According to TA this was the best and we were very pleased with choice. Had booked 6 months previously and got good price of NZ$160 per night (taxes included).

Wonderful large reception area with people having afternoon tea! Check-in staff very pleasant. Room was on the business floor. Ticked all the boxes even though we get annoyed with decorative cushions and throws on beds it was very comfortable and bathroom had a bath.

Lovely spa facilities. Their pool, even though outdoors, is heated. Yes it did rain but that only added to the fun and a dip in the pool and spa was lovely after longhaul flight.

Location was great as there is a stop on the Airport Express bus route and it was a 20 minute walk straight down Queen Street into town/harbour. Yes, there was a shuttle but we never used it.

Didn’t have food at the hotel but had breakfast just around the corner, at St Kevin’s Arcade. Highly recommended! Just a short walk down Queen Street there was a gem of a French bistro called, Le Grand Mange (I think) and they did a special 3 course for NZ$29. Also along Queen Street you had loads of Asian eateries to choose from. Tanuki’s Cave (Japanese bar) was a find!

Would I stay again at the Langham – yes, definitely!

Room Tip: Book as early as possible to get good price

We had a rather ordinary stay here last year during their renovations and were a tad hesitant to return but weren't we genuinely glad we came back!

Staff were exceptional (and I must make a special mention of both the reception staff and the very personable doormen), nothing was too much hassle and they genuinely tried to anticipate and exceed our needs.

The beds were outrageously comfortable; combined with the black-out curtains, we still got an easy eight hours sleep, despite arriving from the airport at something bordering 2am. Turndown service was a nice touch and the ammenities and furnishings in the Executive rooms make them actually worth the extra dosh.

Breakfast was very hearty, with options for the gluten and dairy intolerants and any other dietary restriction or persuasion. Although they were very busy on Saturday morning, we found the staff were still attentive. We also truly appreciated breakfast running til 11am, as it meant we could sleep in and still have a solid hour for an un-rushed breakfast.

Learning our lesson from last time, we booked ahead for a treatment at the Chua Spa and words do not do that place justice, other than to say not booking yourself a massage or treatment is doing yourself a massive injustice. Even if you don't get a treatment, do a few laps in the heated pools and then try out the jet showers, the dry steam room, the ice bath and the herbal steam room (which any guest can access) for a relaxing afternoon. After using the facilities and getting a massage, its been two days and I still feel like a new woman!

Distance from town and the wharfs is noticeable but we enjoyed the downhill walk and when it rained we just cabbed it back without any dramas.

Downstairs bar has some decent liquor on offer and prices weren't too bad. The Bar-fridge was well (and temptingly) stocked, it took great restraint not to crack into the red wine on offer!

All in all, if you want a hassle-free and enchanting stay in Auckland, we genuinely recommend the Langham; its now the only hotel we'll stay at in Auckland!

Room Tip: Reserve a treatment at Chua Spa, they book out!

This fine small boutique hotel has all the trappings of a 4-5* luxury boutique hotel. But I could not help to notice the little differences that were added with great expense to elevate this hotel a notch further. Marble with intricate design in the entryway to our room, an expanse of beautiful paquet wooden fllor in the lobby leading to the salons and elevators. What elegant touches that most would not even notice but yet, truly give you an idea at what level this Hotel strives to reach in making it Auckland's best.It is true that the Club Room superior rooms could still be a wee-bit bigger, but they are so cozy and decorated with thought and panache that it all works . If you've never had a 'Club Room Experience'...this is the Hotel to try it for the first time. It won't break the bank and the Club room itself is a lovely place to have breakfast, cocktails and appetizers...etc. The staff ia very attentive and welcoming but I must admit that Raymundo and Judy went especially out of thier way with the level of service and warmth that only makes a club room even more special. The 'Salon for Tea' in the lobby is a must if you've never had a proper 'English Tea', served in a classically designed setting that would be the highlight of anyone's afternoon. Another 'Must'. Dinner at '8'. Having the dining experience of '8' was wonderful. This concept has been done but never with such quality and top-notch chefs and atmsophere. 8 different stations with foods from France to the Far-East. The chef (I forgot her name), who grills the meats with vegetables in a pacific-rim style, is exemplary and quite friendly, too. The dessert station is outrageous. Everything I sampled was wonderful and yet, the ambiance in the restaurant, once you leave the bustling 'Nations of Cusisines area' , is lovely and sublime. Our best meal in Auckland. Ann the manager is a Doll. Yes..a Doll. She gave us a tour during the day and truly convinced us to give it a go. We are glad we listened. On that note, I must end by saying that this hotel would only be what it is because of the present staff. From Freeda and Cheryl in Reception (Cheryl actually had a menu copied and brought to our room after I mentioned a specfic type of cuisine ), to the staff throughout the enitre hotel, I was so impressed by the fine level of friendly, informal attitude mixed with ' Going Beyond' in providing any service that you requested or they thought of themselves, to elevate the quality of your stay. Do the 'Club Room'. It is a wonderful price for the services, breakfast, all day nibbles and drinks and the wonderful cocktail pre-dinner that is offered. We will be back!

The hotel was everything we thought it would be. Very comfortable. A bit out of CBD but exercise is good especially the hills in the area. Would not be good for people with limited walking capability - would need to use shuttle. Also walking gives you the opportunity to explore for restaurants.

Being aware that the Langham in Melbourne is in a prime location around actvity, I thought the Auckland Langham would be as well. Unfortunately not. However, they do have a shuttle that runs to the wharf about every 30 minutes. Upon check in I was told I had booked a King room and the only option was that or 2 single beds. Since our 20 year old daughter was with us the only option was to keep the king and add a roll away. They charged $50.00 for one night for the rollaway. The service was great though. Someone immediately came, set up the bed and brought the extra towels, robe and slippers to go with it. The bedding was wonderful and the value was very good.

Beautiful hotel with great rooms nicely decorated. Only a short walk from Queen St, but with the added value of quiet nights. Helpful staff. The restaurant is an experience, though the food was not as top notch as we expected.

Overview:
We've stayed at Langham hotels previously so knew what to expect and the Langham Auckland is no exception - impeccable service and luxurious surroundings.

Check in:
Extremely helpful and efficient. Everything about the hotel explained like we were the first customers of the day despite it being about 11pm at night. The doorman that greeted us and took our car provided a very sincere welcome and when we bought our bags up to the room referred to us by name.

Location:
Not an issue for us - we walked where we needed to go otherwise caught taxis. The hotel isn't down near the water but to be honest, I'm glad it wasn't. that part of town isn't that great or scenic.

Room:
The Langham gets sleep! Yet again, the most amazingly comfortable beds, huge bathroom and really plush furnishings. Always appreciate the turndown each night. We'd return from dinner to dimmed lights, slippers, robes and chocolates with bottled water.

Facilities:
World class services. The Spa, Fitness Centre and Pool area are amazing.

Restaurants:
We ate at Seven one night and the food was fantastic. Highly recommend the experience. go with an empty stomach and about three hours for a night of eating around the world. We also had the buffet breakfast one morning which was standard breakfast buffet fare - BUT - the waffles made to order - delicious!

Service:
One of the best parts about the Langham experience - they must train their teams at the same place Disney do! The only gripe we had was at the restaurant - the service was slow once we made our initial order it was like pulling teeth the get clean plates and drinks. Same thing happened at breakfast with a lost coffee order. We only encountered one rude person who was working in the lounge/bar area. They were serving high tea and we had a bride in our party that we wanted to get some photos in that area. The server was rude and unhelpful. We ended up getting the shots without his help.

The other part of Langham service I love is the pre welcome email and post stay survey. Lovely touches.

Summary:
Yep, if I'm back in Auckland, I'd stay here again.
