“Langham Auckland - A Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2013

From the friendly efficient greeting when you arrive to their efficient Checkout, our stay at the Langham Auckland was excellent. The room and Club were very clean and well serviced, while the Pool and Chuan Spa were loved b my wife and son. Overall it was a pleasure to stay at the Langham Auckland and I would recommend it to anyone.

This was the first of our many accommodations in New Zealand and was an excellent choice after a long flight. We arrived at the hotel about 9.30 a.m. and our room was not ready, but we had a relaxing breakfast in the hotel and the hotel staff, who were all extremely helpful, said they would get a room for us as soon as possible. There were plenty of places to rest in the hotel whilst we waited. We were given a room at 11.45, but they would have looked after our luggage for us if we had wanted to go out. We stayed in an executive room, which had breakfast included in the price of the offer we had booked. This made the room good value, as the buffet breakfasts have an extensive range of items, but are expensive. Rooms were as expected in a hotel of this calibre. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from the harbour, but is central for restaurants. We would certainly recommend this hotel, but would advise guests to pay us much of their bills in cash as they can, as this was the only accommodation that we stayed in that had a surcharge for payments by debit as well as credit cards.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on two separate nights on our recent holiday in Australia and New Zealand and on both occasions we were extremely pleased with the quality of service and the standard of accommodation. The staff on reception and the porters at the main door are efficient, well trained and welcoming. The accommodation is very good with a large room, very comfortable bed, a good bathroom with bath and shower, and the bodum in each room has both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee. An excellent addition to the room. The outside swimming pool on the roof is delightful and big enough to exercise fully and the water is warm too. There are other leisure facilities but we sadly did not have time to use them. The breakfast experience is excellent with an exceptional choice of food, the best we encountered over our 7 week break, including honey from the honeycomb and a chocolate fountain! The staff in the restaurant are professional and friendly. Our evening bar meal was also most satisfactory. The hotel runs a regular minibus to and from the harbour area during the day and evening which is very helpful.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Auckland and it provides good value for money compared to other similar hotels in large cities. We have now stayed at the Langham three times over the last three years and the experience has been excellent on each occasion.

Stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights before joining a cruise in February.
Con's: 1. After checking in just after 2pm following a 26 hour journey from the UK, the hotel did not give us our room until 3:45pm (45 minutes after the official check-in time). 2. The location is not very good, a good 15 minute walk to the harbour front (longer walking back up the hill) and in an area that is starting to look rather tired and run down.
Pro's (sort of): 1. The room was clean and the bed comfortable (but poor view - looking at a roof-mounted air conditioning unit). 2. Buffet breakfast was OK, if slightly chaotic with huge queues of people waiting for a table.

Would I stay there again? I think I would look for somewhere else first, but if nothing suitable was available then yes I would.

Our 3 nights here in February was our penultimate stop of a six week tour of Australia and N.Zealand. They say first and last experiences count so fortunately our last experience was a proper 5*, The Peninsula in Hong Kong. I have seen the reviews of this hotel by New Zealanders, you must be easily satisfied.
The rooms are tired on the point of exhaustion, they are dark and depressing and the bathrooms with combined bath and shower are like something from a previous era. Having stayed at the sister hotel in Melbourne we expected better but not to be. Our checkin was accompanied by the taking of a $450 deposit against expenditure despite the room being pre-paid. When I rejected the explanation that this was company policy based on our experience in Melbourne the answer was a dismissive shrug of the shoulders.
The SPE bar where we hd a simple snack was filthy to the point that glasses stuck to the table top, staff took three seperate journeys to deliver our simple meal, four attempts to find a ketchup bottle that was not empty, has a cleaning regime which consisted of sweeping debris onto the floor and the concept of paying cash was utterly out of their reach, taking fully five minutes to find some change in a bar which is open to the general public.
Like the person with the KitKat I was advised by Reception that I only had $66.10 credit and what was I going to do about it. As we were leaving the next morning early cash payment was the answer but to use the credit we took a pre-dinner drink amounting to $22 and signed for it. On settling the dinner bill the drinks had been transfered and I was advised this was due to me having no credit. 66-22 is 44 where I come from. There followed a major row which included a hapless Duty Manager and an increasingly distressed wife. On leaving early the following morning there was no inquiry about our stay and there has been no follow up survey, I wonder why?. Our impression of this hotel was perhaps summed up by the fact we drove away at 4am two prostitutes were plying their trade from the corner of the hotel, says it all really.

We started our NZ holiday with a couple of nights at the Langham - what a treat! Our executive room was beautifully decorated with gorgeous vintage details such as ornate mirrors and lamps, but with a very up to date standard of cleanliness and comfort. We were welcomed in the driveway by a very engaging employee who organised the valet parking of our car and brought up our bags, just what we needed after a tiring day flying with our baby daughter. We didn't find it too expensive, probably as we stayed early in the week when rooms were cheaper. Worth every cent!

Staying here is a pleasure and the rooms are very good. The pool and sauna are very good and relaxing.

The vegetables in the buffet restaurant were not very hot but the rest of the meals was very good.
