We really loved the service we received at this hotel. Kelly at the front desk was especially nice. Our room was clean and overlooked the harbour. Nice sized kitchen to prepare meals in.
A couple of negatives were that they did not have a gym/fitness center. Also, noise on the weekend nights is definitely a problem. We had our 5 year old with us and he kept wanting to look out the window to see what was going on. Lots of yelling and loudness ?? watching a sporting event on the TV's??
If travelling from the airport, GET THE SHUTTLE!!! Our cab fare was $108 due to traffic. We took a shuttle back to the airport for $39 and it was great. I think it was the Super Shuttle. The front desk (Kelly) booked it for us.

The location of this hotel is great. It is right on the viaduct harbour where loads of great restaurants are.
The room we got was a little disappointing in that we did not invest in a harbour view room. We went for a city view and unfortunately got a view of the tepid baths that were undergoing a major redevelopment.
We requested a cot with our booking and paid extra for it. When we arrived at the room it had been forgotten. Had to chase recpetion for this.
Then when we had our room cleaned the following day, we were only left two towels despite three of us staying. Again had to chase which was a little annoying.
Conversely to these, requests were never a problem. TV didn't work when we first arrived as the power cord had been dislodged from the back of the TV. Only had one wine glass in the room (???) so had to request a second so we could enjoy a wine.
Asked reception to provide advice as to a good take away dinner as our young son was asleep. Given a great tip on gourmet pizza at the Italian restaurant right next to the hotel (Portofino). Pizzas were amazing and went back later in the night for takeaway desert!.
The room was a nice room with good facilities, but the cleaning of the room was just a little sloppy (not enough towels left, wine glass missing, TV power cord dislodged).
Overall I have really mixed feelings about this hotel. Whilst the room was nice, we should have paid the extra for the harbourview room. The service was very mixed - reception great, cleaning not so.
I would stay here again - I guess that means that overall it was good!

After a 32 day cruise we were delighted both with the location and the generous size of our suite. Views of the harbour were stunning and everything including great restaurants was within walking distance. Kitchen was basic and intended more for making coffee or warming something in the microwave. Washer and dryer were full size and much appreciated. Separate bedroom with lovely balcony was large and very pleasant.

Noise from the many restaurants on the promenade directly below our suite didn't bother us but might concern light sleepers. Having said that, the view of the harbour is worth the investment.

One minor problem. Internet was included in our room price but every time we signed on we were asked to accept a $20 plus fee daily fee. I checked with the front desk and was assured that internet was included and that I would not be billed. This was not the case at time of check-out. While the fees were deleted from my account with no problem, the experience at the end of our stay was not as positive as it could have been.

Also check for Sebel (Miravac) affinity programs which may include internet access. This was the case later in our trip in Cairns when Sebel tried to charge $29 per day per computer for internet access.

In summary, a great hotel and location - check your account carefully!

We stayed at the Sebel Suites for three nights and were pleased to find our one-bedroom harbour view suite (318) had everything we could have asked for. The views over Viaduct Harbour were great and the balcony was a great spot to take in the views and atmosphere of the harbour in the evening,

The suite itself had a very high quality feel. The main lounge room was nicely furnished and overlooked the harbour, with a small but fully loaded kitchen next to it. The bedroom was separate with lots of wardrobe and other storage space, next to it a large bathroom and a separate laundry. Everything worked and the suite was decorated in a modern, clean and classy style.

As other reviews have mentioned, being on the harbour side has its downsides as the Viaduct Harbour area is a vibrant and popular eating/entertainment district. We were only in the Sebel on weeknights but it was still quite noisy until the early hours every night of our stay, so light sleepers take note that this might not be the place for you.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Sebel, the location is good for the waterfront and CBD, the rate was competitive and the suite itself of a high standard. The noise issues are what they are, something to bear in mind when deciding whether a stay here is for you or not.

Room Tip: On harbour side, go high to avoid noise

We arrived here late morning after an overnight flight and were delighted to find that our very large suite was ready and waiting for us. We unpacked, loaded up in the inroom washing machine and had a good look around. The suite was very big with a bathroom/utility area, a separate bedroom and the huge lounge/kitchen and very well equipped, especially for travellers like us with a 7 week trip creating lots of laundry and baggage.

The balcony looked straight down onto Viaduct Basin, just steps from the Ferry Building and access to all of Auckland transportation. There was even a little supermarket just a two minute stroll away and a wide range of restaurants/bars in the precinct. You're also only a five minute walk from the Fish Market - great on a warm evening as you enjoy freshly cooked fish and chips and a bottle of wine!

On the downside, the furnishings were beginning to look a little dated and if you wanted to use wi-fi it a) costs and b) you had to being your netbook downstairs to the lobby. However, the biggest disadvantage for us was the fact that we were there on a Friday night. Viaduct Basin is party central on weekend evenings and the noise was extreme and unrelenting right into the middle of the night. If you're a light sleeper, even earplugs don't drown it out!!

All in all, we loved it but I'd onlystay there again midweek.
