Very roomy suites. We had a separate bedroom a comfortable lounge and a kitchen with microwave, small hob and full size fridge. Very clean and well maintained. Only disappointment was the noise at night. The rooms are not double glazed and when the revellers are about it is very noisy. Other than that it is in a great spot and great bars and restaurants surround it. A five minute walk takes you to the main shopping area and waterfront where the cruise ships dock.

We stayed 3 nights whilst St. Patricks day was being celebrated. The harbour area really buzzes and if you want fantastic views and a lively time this is the place to stay. The waterfront rooms are quite noisy at weekends so choose a city view if it worries you. We had a deluxe one bedroom apartment which was really roomy, had two balconies overlooking the marina and was really well equipped including a washer and dryer. Perhaps the bathroom was a bit tired. There is no restaurant but you are able to charge meals to your room at several restaurants on the marina. Wifi is available in the lobby but otherwise is an expensive extra - when are these large group hotels going to wake up to the fact that guests expect free wifi in the room as part of the basic package - it's the 21st century!

Room Tip: Marina view is noisy.

For a first timer, The Sebel Suites is a bit awkward to find. It's VERY close to Viaduct Harbour but at the same time, it's tucked at the rear of a overhead pass. Once you get there, you will get your bearing easily. For both my check-in and check-out, I was served by Kamal and he's personable, attentive and prompt. This is what I want: in and out in lightning speed. The reception area is cramped but then again, the hotel can only make the best use of what it's got. There are two lifts and I was placed on the 6th floor. The room is actually a full service apartment with a kitchenette, spacious bathroom, laundry facility with washing powder included, balcony that I could NOT use. I think the Accor has it right, pitching it above Mercure and below Sofitel and it's exactly that. Even the cleaning standard is a notch below Sofitel too. The difference is like night and day. Naturally, there's one side of the building that's overlooking the water and another side that's overlooking the city. If you are yearning for water view, then, you don't want to be in 605. Sebel Suites is not somewhere that you want to be on weekends because it's so close to Viaduct Harbour. For those of you that are familiar with Auckland city, you know all so well that the Harbour comes alive on weekends. You have hoons thinking that they are Vin Diesel and Paul Walker from Fast & Furious and so, they would be hooning around Auckland Central on weekends. Furthermore, you have revellers who would be shouting, yelling, shrieking with occasional throw of bottles and shrieking of tyre wheels with a dash of sirens at a distance. If you are a light sleeper, you definitely should consider seriously of staying elsewhere. Being a publican myself, I am accustomed to commotion and I could sleep through the noisiest environment and this doesn't faze me at all. I simply love the space and sufficient seating to facilitate my daily requirement. I think the Suites is priced accordingly except the Accor's draconian and costly wi-fi charges. One last thing, Sebel Suites use eco-bulbs and they look out-of-space with the decor and the light quality is very glary. Furthermore, if Accor is into Qualmark Enviro award, it's not doing so well with its sustainable policy with many halogen lights being used at the ground floor, when it should actually be starting to invest into the latest LED technology. Commendable stay on weekdays. You needn't worry about not finding food and drinks around this neighbourhood because you are surrounded by them. The other three things to look into: the dryer in the room isn't functioning properly. The moment you switched it on, it would switch itself off immediately. It worked SOMETIMES but not all the time. The same applied to its TV. The remote didn't seem to be working at all. I requested for newspaper to be delivered to my room daily but I never got them even though my fellow guests from other rooms got them. In other words, there's a breakdown of communication among the staff and that maintenance department is not being briefed regarding the status of the equipment by the housekeeping team.

Room Tip: Don't go for Room 605 side if you want to have water view..
