“Very Noisy Hotel”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

We stayed at this hotel on a saturday night, if you want a quiet place to stay this is not the place. We stayed on the first floor above the pubs in the Viadict Harbor. The loud music never stopped until 4am. The room was lovely, central to everything, the marina view from the 1st was not really a view. Not worth the $580.00 we paid.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the road side and away from the 1st floor.

Dear Mamonie

We appreciate you sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear that the noise factor did not assist you with having a great stay. Due to the hotels location in the vibrant precinct of the Viaduct Harbour, we do experience noise from time to time and try to manage in the best possible way we can. We do follow up with the local authorities and the bars concerned should the noise level go beyond certain limit as this impacts our guests.
Thank you once again for your feedback and I do apologies for the inconvenience.
Kind regards

My wife and I had a dinner engagement in town and decided to stay overnight at The Sebel Suites. We found it an ideal place to stay. The room was spacious and spotless. The view was okay but I was told the pricier rooms looked out over the harbour. Its centrally located, we also found ourselves a step away from
the viaduct where all the nice eateries and bars were.
Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed 2 nights here at the start of a three week holiday in New Zealand. Had two separate city view rooms. View was just city street but we weren't in room for much of the time to need a view. If a view is something that you want then paying extra for harbour view would be worth it as the harbour is beautiful. Staff were friendly, check in and out was quick and easy. You have to pay for parking I think it was just over $20 and its not valet parking but car park is basement of motel so easy to get bags up to room ect. It was a great place to stay in a great area of Auckland right on the water.

Room Tip: Room service kids meals are large enough for an adult.

We stayed here four years previously and the same key aspects brought us back. It’s central for walking to attractions, restaurants & bars and the modern apartment style accommodation provides some space and home comforts including laundry facilities (useful when on extended holidays).

This time around we’d booked a Marina View one bedroom suite for two nights hoping to benefit from the setting however the room allocated provided a view of the rooftops of the marina restaurants and the windows of neighbouring apartments. We could see the marina (at an angle) which was the comment made when I returned to the reception to try to get moved but apparently all the other marina view apartments were allocated so no luck. The last time we were looking out onto a car park and the highway so I suppose it was an improvement although booked five months in advance at $325 (£168) per night it was almost double the price.

There are not many spaces on the busy street outside to drop-off luggage and very limited waiting time so you need to be quick - and lucky. (We were returning our hire car following check-in).

The suite contained a long and narrow kitchenette/lounge, a separate bedroom and ensuite. The ensuite was particularly spacious and included a powerful walk-in shower and a bath. There were plenty of fresh towels available, a heated towel rail to put them on and bathrobes. There were even two entrances for convenience - one from the lounge and one from the bedroom!

The kitchenette included a cooker, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar (at usual high prices), crockery, cutlery, glasses and importantly for us - a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.

There’s a table and chairs in the lounge so you could have a meal in the suite and then sit on the settee or comfy chair to watch television. The bedroom also had a television, a very comfortable spacious bed and less usefully a door to the balcony to admire the “view” - it‘s only one with space to stand rather than sit out on. There is also a courtesy safe in the apartment which is handy.

Breakfast isn’t included although there are plenty of places nearby to get one. Some of the neighbouring restaurants will charge meals to your room if required however keep in mind that the hotel adds a 1.5% transaction charge for cards when settling the bill.

We reserved a taxi to the airport and an early morning call in advance via reception and these arrangements went smoothly.

A comment is made quite frequently about disturbance from the nearby bars however on both our stays we’ve been fortunate and had no such problems - the latest stay was over Sunday and Monday evenings.

Room Tip: For a decent Marina view and balcony you can sit out on you need to opt for a Marina Deluxe suite...

Hi Rantin rover

Thank you for your feedback and it was a pleasure to welcome you back at The Sebel Auckland. Its good to see that you had a pleasant stay. I am sorry that we were not able to room move you as we had been booked out on the room type. We do have a car park in the hotel which can be used to unload or load luggage should the loading bay on the street be busy. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you again in future.

Kind regards

This is the second time I have stayed at the Sebel Suits this year and as always it delivers value for money. I always have a harbour view which makes staying there a home from home. The apartments are well kitted out with a washing machine and dryer which is usually used on the first night, kitchen and bathroom/shower. The Sebel Suits are located in the Viaduct which is the centre of Auckland's restaurant district, so you don't have to go far for a good meal or a "pint".

Far from a hotel but far from uncomfortable. Well presented and helpful staff. Parking was easy.
Would recommend a suite with marina views. Easily cook a first class meal if you can't be bothered heading to one of the restaurants downstairs, some of which you can charge back to your room.
Handy place to stay.

Pros:
Location
Room size
Equipped Kitchen and Laundry corner
Lots of restaurants nearby

Cons:
No wi fi in rooms
No windows that open in studios not facing the marina ( you cook and have no ventilation)
100 Dollars deposit PER NIGHT mandatory ( even if you fully prepaid your room) meaning if you stay 10 nights be prepare to have a deposit held for NZD1000 on your card!!
Staff in reception could be nicer

Room Tip: Rooms facing the parking lot accross the road are much quieter than facing the marina however window...

Hi 20traveller01

We appreciate your feedback regarding your recent stay at The Sebel. We are currently working on having Wifi installed in the hotel. In the meantime Wifi is available in the hotel lobby. We do have portable routers available at reception which can be set up in the rooms to create wireless network. I do apologies if this was not communicated. Some of the studios do not have openeing windows but all the rooms are equped with hood range which has ventilation to allow for cooking. As with any other hotel, we also require gurantee for incidentals. It is not necessary to hold a higher deposit for a long stay guest as these could be topped off depending on the balance of the account. We also appreciate your comments with regards to the friendliness of the staff. This is an important part of our service and as such will be followed up with the team. We thank you again for your feedback.
Kind regards
Kesh N
