Centrally positioned by the marina which has lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance. It’s a bit more expensive to get a room with a view of the boats but it does look good. We were conscious of comments about noise from the surrounding bars at night so we chose to get an apartment away from the marina side however on a Thursday it was probably unlikely to be a problem.

We were allowed to check-in early which was a great help following a long flight from the USA. Our room (#224) was at the side of the building with the main windows overlooking a multi-storey car park and a slip road from the motorway. Not attractive, however one of the side windows gave a view of the Sky Tower which is within walking distance. There was no noise disturbance.

The apartment had a well equipped kitchen area with all you would need for self catering and also had a dining table and chairs. The washing machine & tumble drier were useful for travellers like ourselves who were away from home for a while and were limited to how much luggage we could take onboard our flights.

The furnishings and fittings were modern and the bed large and comfortable.

The bathroom was spacious with a walk-in shower (good power-shower) and a bath.

The reception staff were friendly and dealt with matters quickly in our experience. One word of caution was that they underestimated the time it would take to travel from the apartments to the airport when booking our transport and we only just made it for our internal flight the following day - so allow plenty of time. In NZ you can check-in up to only 30 minutes prior to take-off with luggage or 15 minutes if you have none (I think we got there with 31 minutes to go!).

Overall a comfortable, modern place with good facilities and at £88 for the night not too expensive.

Upgraded
Very efficient staff, even the girl in training. Fast checkin and checkout. Very friendly and helpful staff. We booked a one bedroom marina deluxe room for our last night in NZ, and bless the hotel they upgraded us to an executive 2 br room (still with the marina view) which was awesome! We were travelling with our 2yr old daughter, so having a separate room for her (it was a study sized room with a single bed and a desk, with enough room to also put up a portacot) was such a bonus. The apartment was spacious and clean, with 2 bathrooms, including a separate bath, and a washing machine and dryer. Washing powder for one load included.
The views were great, watching yachts etc on the harbour. There is a huge selection of restuarants, and the area is buzzing on a Friday night.
We did hear noise from the bars below in our room (314) at night, but were expecting it having read other reviews and knowing the location. It didn't disturb us or affect sleeping (i dont' think it went on very late into the night)).
The main bedroom had an enormous and very comfortable bed, even bigger than a king size. Full block out curtains.
Excellent kitchen facilities, and a dining table for 6.
Parking below is $25 a night, convenient and secure.
About 30 mins to the airport.
Loved this place, would absolutely stay there again.

We stayed at the Sebel 16-18 jan 2010. We had arrived after a cruise from Australia. The Sebel is located in a brilliant spot, Viaduct Harbour, centre of action for Auckland. Walk out the front doors to cafes, restaurants, bars. The staff at front desk where very friendly and more than helpful. On the saturday night a bit of noise drifted up to our 3rd floor room but not sufficently laud enough to be annoying or disturb sleep. From the Sebel very easy walk to main Ferry terminals to explore beautiful harbour and surrounds (visit Devonport), walk about 8 minutes to main bus stops in Queen Street(free city circuit bus or low coast Link Bus). if you want to self cater room had good kitchen with china & cutlery and there is a great selection from delis, liquor stores & supermarkets close by. I have visited auckland on number of occassions and Sebel is by far one of the better places to stay.

We stayed at this hotel over the Christmas period in 2009. Even though it was Christmas all the staff were friendly and very helpful to our requests.

PROS
- Fantastic location, near all the pubs and restaurants of the Viaduct, but also short walk to the centre of Auckland, ferries and the SkyCity Tower.
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Nice room, we had room 508 a marine view deluxe room that overlooked the viaduct, pictures attached. The advanced purchase price was reasonable due to the period we were staying. Very spacious and all the facilities you would need.
- Reasonable cost for secure parking underneath hotel.
- Room also included washing machine and dryer, which allowed us to get some washing done during our long trip.

CONS
- Noise. Being on the viaduct, the noise from the pubs and their music does enter the room. OK if you are heavy sleeper, but not for light easily disturbed sleepers.
- No free wifi
- Hotel and rooms could use a bit of updating.

Other than that very nice hotel. Would stay there again if I ever get back to Auckland.

Managed to get a reservation for New Years Eve and the next couple of days and at a real good price as well. We got a taxi to drop us off at the hotel and we were unloading our bags and the police came along and told us to move on as the front door of the hotel is on a busy corner and the hotel does not have a dedicated parking space out front. That was our only hic-up. Apartment was room number 610 a one bedroom apartment with full kitchen facilities on the top floor. As per the pictures the place was very clean and quite large. I always like a bathrom with a seperate bath tub and shower cabinet. The room had an excellent view over the marina. We choose this place to be central to all the bars and restaurants around that area. Now there can be a lot of noise at night time but to be honest we slept with the windows open and was not distrubed at all. The apartment was perfect for relaxing on the balcony and watching all the other people walking about and the very expensive yachts in the Marina. The Sebel also has a tie in with a lot of the restaurants that you just show your room key and they bill the hotel direct. This was put to good use on New Years Eve. The Sebel is a perfect hotel to stay in and very close to the city. It one of my favourite hotels and would definately come back again.

Really nice place to stay, park in the viaduct car park, (just follow the water until you end up in a car park) and walk to the sebel. Great position for alfresco dining and shopping on Queens street. Very clean rooms and nice to be able to wash your clothes if need be. Highly reccommend staying here.
