Low quality Asian stores and restaurants, alternative public in the dark hours, with appropriate bars and dance floor. Just skip it

Queen Street is the main shopping strett in Auckland. It's OK. But where are the big department stores? Easy - not on Queen Street! If you come in on a cruise ship - most days there is one in port - then come and get your souvenirs here. If you want more its out of town you must go.

Spoilt for choices here! Clothes are surprisingly reasonably priced. Accessories shops that sell gemstones or custom made rings are what I love most on this street.

Walking up and down Queen Street is a treat by itself. There you will find coffee shops, restaurants, shops, cinemas, theaters, nightlife, street performances, etc. it's lively without being overwhelmingly crowded, and it's safe night and day. The heart of CBD Auckland and it's also well connected to the other parts of this sprawling city with excellent network of buses. At the end of it you will be on the waterfront with its Ferry Building and many marinas nearby. When I get the chance to come back to Auckland in the future, Queen Street would be my first choice for accommodation, because it makes a perfect base for adventure throughout the City.

Even though this is the most properous street in central Aucland, it's not as busy or noisy as others in New York, Chicago, or Tokyo. But it is well designed, with orderly traffic flow and some boutiques, fancy restaurant and cafes. No racial disrespect, but If there were fewer Korean or Chinese stores, it could be a more beautiful and cleaner-looking one. Good for window shopping, convenient with banks and post office nearby.
