“Great location and very good value”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

What a very good place. We were attending a concert (Doobie Brothers) at the Civic Theatre and this was almost the closest accommodation - only a ten minte downhill walk.
Its a very clean place and with a generous variety of amenities including a kitchenette, mini bar, super pressure in the shower, TV with Sky Sports and a comfy king size bed. It also had a combination washing machine/clothes drier in a cupboard. We didn't need the a/c but I tried it out and it is very noisy.
We were able to check in at noon despite being told it was normally 2pm. We used the place primarily as a base from which to visit and shop. Parking costs $20 per night and their basement is tight. If you've got a large 4x4 then look to park somewhere else. We went out for dinner so can't comment on the meals other than breakfast. It was ok with a good variety of cereals, hot drinks and other things for the Contential. I was surprised that the cooked portion was made to order rather than a line up of options. Given the size of the restuarant and not too many in for bearkfast I guess it makes sense. There were three of us in our group for breaky and we all came away feeling ready to take on the day.
All in all we had a good experince here. All of the the staff we interacted with were helpful and curtiest.
The cost to stay was ok, not cheap but for what was on offer the price was about right. I'd certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the higher floors because of the views.

I stayed here for one night while in Auckland for work. Everything about this hotel is fine. The desk assistant was pleasant and my room was ready when I checked in. The room was clean and had everything I needed. The location is pretty central, as long as you don't mind a wee bit of a walk. The whole place is just a bit tired and in need of a spruce. However, I'd stay again if the price was right and I didn't plan on being there long.

Been here three times and the service and cleanliness is close to excellent for the price.
The suites are a good size, good decor, great views from up high.
Recently discovered their pool, one cool, one heated, lovely way to unwind at the end of a long day.
Short walk from Aotea Centre, right next to Myer Park, Queen St and K Rd about 3 mins walk away and for good souvlaki etc go to K Rd and turn right, yum!
I don't often write reviews but I love staying at the Amora, I'm treated with respect and I'm sure everyone else is also, as have those who've stayed with me.
The lunch specials are small but nice, breakfast is about the only non-appealing feature, would prefer cheaper options with greater range.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback. We appreciate the time you have taken.

Yes we are in a very handy location and that makes everything so much easier. With the breakfast we shall discuss this with the chef, and see what best we can do to improve the variety as well as keep the cost in mind.

We look forward to having you stay with us in the near future.

This is no four seasons or even a hilton but it's a solid 4 star property. I stay here about 3 times a year for a few days attending conferences. I usually book a suite and it does the job. However sometimes my room has a mini bar and sometimes it's just a fridge and not stocked. Same goes for bath robes there one stay and gone the next.
My groups main issue is with the bar hours. Our evening meetings don't finish till after 9 and the bar shuts at 10. With a group of 30 people you would think they would extend the hours but the are unmoving thinking extending there ours till 10.15 on a Friday evening is them moving to meet guest demands.
It's a good hotel at its price point but the fact they could make more money off our group and other guests by keeping the bar open when there is a number of people (10+) wanting refreshments is a little puzzling and I wonder if training in understanding guest needs has been a priority at this hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the park

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback. With regards to the mini bar, some of our lower floors do not have mini bar and just a fridge hence it could have happened you would be on a lower floor. However as you do know our reception staff would be more than happy to bring beverages to your room (room service) without any additional charge.

I do understand that the bar needs to be open till later considering your meeting gets over at 9.00pm, however if you make a request to the F & B supervisor or the Duty Manager I can assure you we would have been more than happy to serve your group for a bit longer, we are quite flexible on that if we had known.

Once again we value your business and anticipate to improve at every step.

We were happy with this mid-priced hotel, based on our 3-night stay during Nov. 2013 in "Deluxe King" room #902 (actually a studio apartment) on the 9th floor. The small kitchen area was sufficient for preparing basic meals for two. There was a microwave and 2-burner stovetop but no oven. There was a clothes washer/dryer -- slow but it worked. The A/C cooled the room somewhat slowly, but it was adequate for the temperatures we encountered in mid-November. There was a combined desk/dresser and a “kitchen” table. Though there was no safe in the room, individually-keyed safety deposit boxes were available at reception. Wireless internet worked well from our room, though we were not pleased about the fee ($10 for 4 hours). From our balcony, there was a good view of the Sky Tower and some other downtown areas.

The bathroom had a combined tub and shower, with a swinging plexiglass panel half the length of the tub. Though such panels are always troublesome, with careful use this one contained most (not all) of the shower water inside the tub. The side of the tub was fairly high, which could be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. A retractable clothesline was provided over the tub.

The hotel is located on a relatively quiet street from which it takes about 10 minutes to walk (downhill) to Aotea Square and Queen St. The walk back to the hotel is uphill. However, one can take one of Auckland's frequent and inexpensive (50 cents per person) Red Link buses up the hill to a stop a block or two beyond (uphill from) the hotel. For groceries, the Amora reception desk directed us to a Countdown supermarket on Victoria St. just off Queen St. Though that is perhaps a 15-min (downhill) walk from the hotel, it was not difficult to return with groceries using the Red Link bus.

We would definitely consider staying at the Amora again on a future trip to central Auckland, especially if we again wanted the option to prepare some of our own meals.

This isn't the most up to date hotel decor wise, but the bed was huge and super comfortable. It was walking distance to Queens st, K road and Ponsonby which was perfect for us. We got a cheap night on wot if to come see a gig and this hotel ticked all the boxes. Cute little outdoor pool and spa which was nice too!

We stayed at this hotel in 2005 when it was called the Duxton, now renamed Amora.
It is little worn, tired and needs some TLC. The spakle of 2005 has gone.
Breakfast was reasonably priced with a good choice available. I asked for decaf coffee which when it arrived was excellent.
