“tired hotel,uncaring staff”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2013

I cannot find a good thing to say about this place. Fortunately, we had used air miles to pay for it. From the moment of arrival having checked in advance that there was parking, only to be embroiled in the biggest snarl up of their own making (you park, get out your luggage, they take your keys) due to having insufficient staff, to staff on the desk who were, frankly, rude, which led to me breaking a golden rule and finally losing my temper with them, and we parked the car ourselves in a public car park (advisable, and cheaper!) to getting to a dirty room, it was a lousy stay. Thank goodnessit was only for one night. Mercure should be asamed of themselves. It is a name which for me has always been synonymous with decent quality. This place was appalling.

I’m sorry to read about the staffing problems you experienced during your stay this is not our normal standard and I apologise for the lack of service.

Thank you for taking time to leave us a comment.

I stayed for 2 days at Mercure Auckland in January 2013. The staff and overall service were very good as you would expect from an Accor hotel, but my room 1207 was infested with bed bugs!

On the second day, I noticed itchy red dots on arms and legs when waking up but didn't pay much attention. Those bite marks have increased in number and severity 48 hours after first spotted. After the check out when the symptoms have gone much worse, I called to report the problem to the hotel and they said they would investigate.

Unfortunate event ruining what would have been a fantastic stay.

The hotel is very tired, wallpaper is coming of the walls in the corridors, rooms need repainting and the bar fridge is noisy. It also states in the services that it has WiFi, but really it is just in the foyer area. The rooms are just wired and charge is per computer, what a rip off.

Good thing it has a great location.

Thank you for your review,

We are currently looking at a refresh of our rooms and hope to start this work sometime this year. This will greatly improve the standard of the rooms.

I do understand the need for WIFI nowadays and we are currently looking in to this in all rooms

Regards

Ours was only an overnight stay before returning home at the end of three weeks travel.
The hotel was chosen for its location which didn't disappoint.
However the parking arrangement is dubious at best. There is nowhere really to park when you arrive. We managed to sneak into a tight spot in the ally leading into the foyer, unloaded and then the staff took the car to an unknown parking spot. 25 minutes warning is then required when you want your vehicle again.
Unfortunately we were put in a room with a shared doorway. Its all locked so no security issues but the door is only a door and we could clearly hear the conversation next door which was annoying when trying to sleep.
Take nothing away from Auckland though. It is a modern sophisticated city well worth a visit.

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor.

We do have a great location but this also means we do struggle for parking. I have passed your comments on the maintenance team about the noise between the rooms.
Hope to have you stay with us again in the future.

Stayed in a twin superior room with a friend in December. The beds were very comfy. But the rooms were old looking and the bathroom looked in a terrible state with stains in the bathtub from constant dripping water. The tap in the sink wouldn't turn off fully which was a bit annoying.
The hallways are also in a not so good state. Paper was peeling off the walls and they looked very worn down indeed.
The hotel itself is in a great location for what we wanted but a refurb is needed.

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor.

We also think we have the best location which is right in the heart of downtown Auckland CBD with Vector Arena within walking distance.
This year we are looking at refreshing our rooms and hallways which will greatly improve our product. We hope to have back in the future.

Great location, but the place is in serious need of an overhaul. both taps in the bathroom ran hot water and the door lock didn't work with any of the swipe keys (tried 4).

Try to avoid rooms overlooking Customs St as they are quite noisy, as is the airconditioning.

If you are just interested in a bed and a good location for a short stay, then it will probably fit the bill.

We do have a great location and we have since fixed our water issues along with a maintenance check of all room locks. We do apologize for this inconvenience it caused.
