This hotel is very close for train travel & close to the viaduct. Excellent breakfast buffet and in my opinion is a great all round place to stay. The hotel is centrally located and provides great access the the bars and waterfront. Staff are friendly and for what you pay it is a good deal. Hotel rooms were nice and warm and beds were very comfortable.

Deciding to shout ourselves a night in the city, got a special at the Mecure. 2 staff on and queue to the door. Very pleasant staff. Prompt check in , armed with swipe card off to room,, key doesn't work... 9 floors up, so back down 9 floors to rectify.. Rooms average, desperate need of upgrade... ... One chair !! So had to sit on bed.... That night , sitting on bed !!!! to watch rugby test , was so hot in room....can't adjust temperature. Preset,,,,so hot. Then try to sleep with night club beneath till after 3.00 am. Screaming people... So NO sleep. Noisiest place joined with the continual rumble of trains going under. Ear plugs must be taken.... Staff and cleaning staff saved a poor rating.

Room Tip: Do not order harbour views. Waste of money.

I like the Mercure, only because of the location. The hotel is worn out but reasonably clean and they have great beds. If you can get a sharp deal, book here. Can get a little noisy from the bars and clubs nearby (if you're on the eastern side) by not overly intrusive.

Bathrooms are tired, old and broken. TV's are old and cheap. Hotel needs money spent on it to be in this price range. However, restaurant fantastic with views across harbour and city couldn't fault this.
