“Not Great”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights and we were not impressed. They allowed us to check-in early as we had arrived at 7am after traveling all night, which was great. However when we made it up to our room and let ourselves in it was already occupied which made for a very awkward encounter. The second room he then sent us to was on the first floor and was a dump. There was no room to move and all the furnishings look like they were 20 years old, not to mention the grime and stains all over the shower. The third room we were sent to was on the third floor which was acceptable - the only issue was we had to take two different (very questionable) elevators just to get to our room!
Once we were in our 3rd room we had a nice view over the park and the room was acceptable for the price we paid.

Room Tip: Do not go for ground floor.

It seems here we let ourselves (and the guest) down by trying to help them out with an early check-in. Most hotels require an extra night to be paid if you're arriving at 7 in the morning and expect to check in then. It's good that all ended well for the reviewer as their last sentence reveals - "Once we were in our 3rd room we had a nice view over the park and the room was acceptable for the price we paid."

This hotel isn't as expensive as most, but it is still a good hotel. They offer a good breakfast (I think you may have to pay for it) that has hot and cold options. I was with a very large group and they did a good job preparing our rooms. I don't have any complaints about the room. I could have used an extra pillow, but I slept well.

It is in a good location right by Queen Street where all of the restaurants and bars are, and there is a park within walking distance. My only complaint is that the shower takes a really long time to heat up, so I took a couple of cold showers.

Thanks for your positive review. We're pleased it met your expectations. Sometimes the showers do takes a while for the hot water to get through the system if some rooms haven't been used for a while but it always does if you're patient. We agree though that it shouldn't take as long as it sometimes does.

We booked this hotel just after missing our plane home so it wasn't a choice to stay here but there were no free flights until Tuesday, two nights away! Kiwi hotel is semi friendly - arriving ready to check in the man at reception was rude and demanding of our ids and tried to tell us we hadn't paid for our room (which we had when we booked online). Once he read our booking he realised and sent us on our way to our room. The lifts dodgy and small I doubt you could fit five or six people in there! It's very bumpy as it rides up and especially down! Our room was small with a double and a single bed a closet and an ensuite. The bed was so hard and to prove this we had a drink sitting in it and it wouldn't get knocked over by moving around or thumping the bed - we needed more pillows from reception. The toilet wasn't fixed properly to the floor and you can't put the seat up so men you will need to aim a little better! For the shower on the other hand the shower head was shorter than I so about 150cm so you washed your upper back not your head! And there was no chance of turning it down from hot that seems like the only temperature there is in Auckland! It's a small hotel located right up the top of queen street walking to the viaduct is a good 30-45min. K road is about 500m away if you want to experience some culture. I would stay again if I couldn't get another place closer to the CBD or this was the cheapest place available on a tight budget!

We feel this review is unnecessarily negative and contains numerous inaccuracies. 'K' Road is 50 metres away not 500. It takes me (nearly 60) less than 20 minutes to walk to the waterfront - not 40 minutes. We have no rooms with shower heads at 150mm. I'm 1.82m and they work fine. To suggest that the beds are so hard a drink won't fall over is simply nonsense. They are all the Pacific Hospitality series made by Sleepyhead and popular with many commercial accommodation properties. We don't pretend to be 5 star and my feeling is this reviewer should have stayed in a more upmarket environment.

If you are after, fine dining, luxurious rooms, stunning views, five star facilities, then this place is certainly not for you.
If you are after, value for money, clean, tidy, and great location then I recomend this hotel.
Fantastic, for a night, two or three, we went for the very basic option as hotel was at full capicity, no complaints, my friend for an extra $20 was lucky enough to get a larger room, well worth the money.
A real feature of this hotel, is free parking, first in first served.
Another plus is the airport shuttle stops outside this hotel and runs a 24 hour service.
The breakfast was lovely, great value, got chatting to the cook, enjoyable conversation, reception also was very efficient, and helpful.
I have stayed in this hotel a few times prior, and for my purposes suits me perfectly, Auckland is lucky to have such an accommodating hotel.

I chose this hotel because of the price, location, access to transport and free wifi. I think it was reasonable for the price, especially as we were given a room which looked refurbished and was quiet. The Reception staff were friendly and efficient. The free wifi did not work in the room, which was annoying. The water pressure in the shower was good, but the toilet didn't flush in the morning because of low pressure.

Thanks for your review. We agree it's annoying when the wi-fi won't connect. It seems to vary depending on your device. Thanks for the positive comments on the reception staff - they always appreciate that. We look forward to hosting you again some time.

Thanks for your review and I'm sure most will agree that your list of pros outweighs the cons! Meanwhile we have just gone through the big (and expensive) procedure of replacing all our door locks as they were quite old.

I stayed on my own in a private room for 3 nights. I'll summarize it:

Pro- own room, clean room, good location in walking distance to ferry terminal, airport bus stops and public library

Con- loud hallways, doors closing sound like gunshots!, wifi access limited to 10mb per room per night and DOES NOT work in rooms so you have to sit in the lobby to use Internet. Staff not unfriendly but not overly helpful.

It wasn't a bad stay but I would choose somewhere else next time I visit Auckland .

Thanks for your review. We're the first to agree there are fancier places around but of course they come with an appropriate price tag. There is a reason we continue to be rated No.1 by TripAdvisor visitors in the Best Value category for central Auckland hotels. Re the FREE wi-fi. Please note that we provide 100Mb per day (not 10Mb as stated by the reviewer). We did have a problem with one of our wireless broadcasters which is now remedied. My old Blackberry can get fast page downloads from anywhere in the hotel. We also have VDSL broadband for guests which has 5 x the upload and twice the download speed of ADSL found in most homes and hotels.
