“Waste of time”
Reviewed 28 March 2013

This area is way over-rated. Someplaces report it as an "up market" area. We found it rather grubby in all respects. Your time can be better spent at other venues in and around Auckland.

This is another area, mostly on one street where one can walk, eat in cafes through to Auckland better fine dining restaurant Antoine's. There are a number of dealer galleries and some of the best craft and object shops.

“Re visit to Parnell”
Reviewed 11 January 2013

Yesterday Friday 11 January I went back to Parnell to have another look, Plenty of Cafes and Pubs but as a tourist village the service needs to be so much better. Old saying " People who sit on a stool in the middle of a paddock in hope that a cow will back up to them, may wait forever.
This sums up many shops in the area, the service is below what a tourist should see in NZ, The odd shop was good, but not excellent...the area once was so nice but it is now grubby, shop signs need re doing, the area is getting a rail station soon which will improve this area so it is time for bussines upgrades now...be aware that many shops/cafes have poor to no wheel chair
access, many alley ways, parking very limited, I went by bus to try the bus out this time, good service. Money needs to be re invested in this once trendy place.
It would be fair to say that since Downtown has been over hauledit took away $$$ from Parnell
As a tourist village you can expect higher prices, but with that it has to look clean, and customer service has to improve a lot.....I say spend time and money else where until this once great place is over hauled. With friends I went to Oh Calcutta Indian ( before Christmas)the service was really good and the food good, this was nice to see, perhaps other cafes/shops should visit to get it right

A historic area of Auckland, revamped. Some very good shops for gift shopping to take home. A full collection of restaurants and cafes of many ethnicities. But take your walking shoes.

“Parnell - Old World Charm Meets the Modern Day”
Reviewed 10 January 2013

As an Ex Pat Kiwi I love spending my holidays in Auckland and especially Parnell.
Although not as busy as it has been in the past (this is a bonus for some) there is still plenty to keep me occupied.
Among my favourites are the Chocolate Cafe (once visited by Bill Clinton!!) with an amazing range of sweets, chocolates and cakes, great restaurants such as La Bocca (an old fav) and Blue Elephant Thai.
Don't forget to check out Farside Bar with their great cocktails and sheek interior too.
NSP is another great stop for a drink or too.
McCarthy's Irish Pub screens many sporting events and has a great vibe.

All in all Parnell is great for an afternoon stroll with great views out over the harbour, a lovely meal followed by dessert and then a cocktail.

Something a bit different from the CBD.
