I'll get right to the point. This place is terrible! Stay away. There are plenty of better options for the same price.
To begin with, we were met at reception by a 16 year old looking kid, who didn't at all take the effort to even seem enthusiastic. When we asked about the $5 cashback when you show an Airbus ticket, which is advertised on their website, he had no idea what we were talking about. He went over to his co-worker, another 'kid' who was sitting behind reception and playing video games on his laptop, and he told us the deal ended. If that is so, then remove it from your website!
Next, free wi-fi. Good luck getting it anywhere other than around reception. Plus the speed is not very impressive.
Kitchen facilities are attrocious. I would not use any of their provided utensils because of the disugsting state they were in. The washing up sponges and cloth were dirtier than the dishes and looked like they hadn't been changed in a month. There was no way I would even touch them.
Beds were not comfortable and neither were the pillows. Thankfully there were no bed bugs that we were aware of in our room, but I have a feeling there is a good chance they are around somewhere.
Also, the hostel is right above a busy street and a pub, so good luck getting to sleep at night with all the noise of drunks, music, street sweepers, cars, etc.

Once again, AVOID STAYING HERE!!!

I spent one night when I first arrived in Auckland at QSB and that was enough for me. Yes it has a great central location right on Queen Street, but there are many other hostels in Auckland that are also central.
The room was a 6 person dorm, and like most older buildings that are now hostels it was pretty squishy, but everyone in the room was fairly nice and considerate in trying not to take up too much of the the very limited space with bags.
The free WiFi hardly worked and in fact didn't even reach our room. If you wanted it you had to sit in the hallway right away from the room, so don't be dependent on it.
The shower and bathrooms were basic but clean, and they did get the job done.
Overall, it was a cheap place. The beds weren't the best and it did have a funny smell. There are other places around Auckland that I'd prefer to stay in.

Great location in the heart of it all, free internet is great and the place was basically clean. Can be a noisy place depending on where you stay with some of the front facing rooms directly above a noisy bar or a takeaway. Slightly old-school furnishings and smells of smoke due to the doorway design onto the street.

Good basic hostel for a few nights stay with free internet and right in the middle of the city.

A perfectly placed hostel in the heart of Auckland. We stayed for a few nights and although the rooms are small, its location and other services make up for it. The shower facilities work fine, and there is great internet access as well as comfy sofas for films etc. Laundry facilities are also available

I will definitely NOT be coming back to this hostel. Not only was there no hot water, everyone smokes at the front door which makes the reception and lounge area fill up with smoke - Difficult to breathe and my clothes reek. The bed blanket smelt of bio, and the hostel is in dire need of renovation. Everything is old and dirty.

I stayed in Qsb over a number of months as a long term guest and had a great time there. I met some amazing people there, both the staff and fellow travellers. Staff are friendly and helpful and have a good knowledge of New Zealand and helped me to book my trip around New Zealand with extra hints and tips for along the way.
The hostel has pretty good wifi, good enough for streaming and uploading most of the times and its free which is a huge bonus in Auckland CBD.
There's all the extras a backpacker might need if your there for a weekend or long term- tv, DVD's, laundry facilities, good kitchens, book exchange, free baggage storage till 11pm and a bar onsite.
The location is in fort street where a lot there is a lot of bars and restaurants. Yes it can be a little noisy at times on the weekends but there are ear plugs available at reception. The hostel is within 5 minutes walking distance of the ferry, train and bus terminal so it's ideal for using as a base for navigating Auckland and its right across from the airport express stop which reception also sells tickets for. I've already booked back in for my return to Auckland and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this place to anyone. Thx Gloria, Will and Norm for a great stay!
