Owner description: The second highest volcanic peak in Auckland, next to Mount Eden, One Tree Hill offers views of the city and has a huge obelisk at the top.

Adjacent to Cornwell Park and only 10 minutes drive from the City you must visit One Tree Hill. The view from the peak is fantastic and the creator below a favourite place for people to etch out messages in stone for lovers or loved ones - on our visit there was a huge message for Mother's Day and heaps of mum's were getting a thrill.

You will love the visit.

You can count sheep on one tree hill.
You can have a feed in the restaurant.
You can see the stars in the planetarium.
You can kick a ball around on the grass.
You get a view from the top, 360 degrees of Auckland.
It is free for the park.

Most visitors go to the top to look at the view and then tick it off their list. I suggest you spend some time just exploring. Kids love it. Just walk around and explore. Walk amongst the lambs and daffodils if you go in spring time. Enjoy the wonderful New Zealand native trees. Children will want to spend all day at the playground which is near the Manukau Rd entrance. Eat at the cafe restaurant in the park or go down to Manukau Rd/Royal Oak for a choice of restaurants.

Located along the Coast to Coast walk. Great view even though it was windy with a bit of rain. Sheep were grazing on the hill too! Interesting Maori history and U2 song named after this landmark.

The British expected that the Maori race would gradually die out and one settler, Logan Campbell left money for a memorial "to perpetuate their memory"The Maori race survives so a "memorial" is inappropriate and many Maori objected to it. Before the obelisk is a bronze statue of a Maori warrior.

The "memorial" is controversial so the local Maori have mixed reactions to it.

Lovely parks and magnificent view from the summit of this extinct volcano that used to be a a "Pa", a Maori fighting fortress.
