“An amazing Place”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

If you like the outdoors, bush tracks, wildlife and secluded west coast beaches then a visit to the Waitakere Ranges is a must. There are many different places to start from and a visit to the visitors centre is well worth while.

“Dam walk”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

The Waitakere Ranges are a pretty big park so there are a huge number of individual walks, tracks, and destinations. There are also a number of Dam's in the Ranges that are a good destination for any day out.

There is a short walk to this Dam down a tar sealed road that is fabulous for kids, families or anyone wanting some exercise or fresh air.

You park just off the road (type 771 Scenic Drive in to Google) and pass through a gate to wind down a steep road to the dam. This is a easy 30 minute walk where you come out to the dam with fabulous views and a few places to sit and have a snack. The walk back up the hills gets the heart pumping a little but its fun. Return trip is about 90 minutes.

“Stunning natural scenery”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

A beautiful area to explore if you like your scenery very natural and non touristy. Some secluded stunning beaches with good swimming and fabulous forest walks. Go with a ranger to appreciate what you're seeing.

“Amazing area”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

Who could think nature this gorgeous is right next to a city as big as Auckland? With its many trails and sites of interests easily reached by car, this is a must for anyone who wants to go out of town for the day. There are plenty of different trails to enjoy, making for some amazing hikes.

On the Arataki Visitor Centre: we stopped by out of curiosity and we are glad we did. There were some great people manning the desk who explained us all about the places we were interested in. After helping us decide on trails to take and marking our maps, one of them even privately led us through the Centre to tell us all about the Waitakere Ranges in general! We unexpectedly learned a lot due to him kindly taking his time for us.

There was a lot of interesting information on display in the Centre, varying from volcanic graphs to terrariums full of live insects. We also enjoyed a stroll through the bush behind it, where there were conveniently placed paths providing a great view. As confirmed with the iconic picture frame at the entrance, there are amazing photography opportunities here.

“I just recommend the photo frame there”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

I am collecting all the big huge photo frame picture in Auckland so I went there. However I chose one path to try the walk there (can't remember the name but quite short one). It takes 1 hr to walk. quite easy walk but lack of chairs to rest (maybe I am a lazy person...). Overall good place to chill out in Auckland
