“did the job”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2013

Like another reviewer we had a room with a bathroom that appeared to be bigger. But it was clean and did the job for our one-night transit stay. It was cheap and the staff were friendly and attentive. Or so we thought at the point we booked out. We then had a sightseeing day in the city 20 minutes walk away, and returned to the hotel to retrieve our luggage. On a whim, we decided to have an evening meal, based partly on our enjoyment of breakfast. Having ordered for ourselves and the other 4 in our party, we we very disappointed to find that the orders arrived almost one at a time, with the last arriving an hour after the first, despite repeated inquiries as to what was going on and being assured that the rest would come in '5 or 6 minutes'. When the last did arrive, we were offered a complimentary drink as compensation for the delay. But even this disappointed - it turned out to be single drink for the person who waited the longest. What shame - it was lovely food too, even though we all ate at separate times. I don't think we'll be going there again after all.

Extra manpower recetnly employed in the restaurant kitchen and delivery time of food continuously monitored. This has improved now.

Service was good but breakfast service really slow. Breakfast seemed well priced but turned out to be very average. Rooms very small but very comfortable and clean which was great as we didn't intend to spend much time in it. Slept well! Close to eateries and liquor store so that was helpful. Some of hotel was modern and some dated however they did have signs up about refurbishing.

Hotel started recently and breakfast getting busier. We have recently added more manpower to ensure timely service in the restaurant, and this has improved timely service.

The room was very clean and the majority of staff very nice & helpful
We booked with booking.com and the price was cheap.
The Hotel is very central, the room was clean and the staff very nice and helpful.
Breakfast in the morning, we chose continental, was standard.
The only problem was the noise from the nearest room because the room walls are not thick.

The building was erected in late seventies with approval from Auckland City Council. The walls appear to be strong and sturdy. There are no partition between the original walls. However, sound may travel through tiny gaps between doors. We may perhaps enquire from a sound engineer and find some solution.

Got a deal on "Grab One". It was a small-ish room with a bathroom that was almost bigger. We were in for one night on our way through town and it suited our needs. It was clean, staff were friendly enough, and would stay again if I got another good deal. I paid just over $100 for the night. Parking is $25 and allegedly "valet" but I found I had to park it myself!
Breakfast in the morning, we chose continental, was standard.

Surprised was my first thought, the overnight car parking fee was a hidden heafty $25, reception keep your keys (their policy) and they decided to move my car withour my permission, unbelievable - we had some of our possessions still in the car. No tv remote in the room, the tv is still fixed flat to a wall that makes it difficult to watch, no menu or file on local attractions, a tin spiral was in my daughters dinner (perhaps from a can opener) and I had a lovely long piece of black hair over my eggs (how could this be missed?). We paid for internet and it took several phone calls to reception before we were given a password that worked, after the fourth phone call the receptionist was rude and sounded annoyed - I told her I could hear it in her tone. Couldnt fit the kettle under the bathroom tap so had to use a drinking cup to fill it. The elevator doors closed on my daughter when she had a tray of food in her hands (that should NEVER happen and the reception staff didint seem too worried when we reported this). The walls were so thin we could hear the conversations of the other guests through the wall and their tv's. To top it all off they charged my credit card prior to our checkout WHAT!!, We had to use the card to guarentee our booking but I was paying with my new passpord cash card, this is just not right as it should be my choice as to what method to pay for my room. We have used this method throughout our travels in New Zealand and this has never happened at the other motels, surely this is illegal?? I do NOT recommend this hotel to other travellers as the extra costs made it dearer than others in the area. On a positive note, the room was very clean and the majority of staff very nice & helpful,

Room Tip: Not recommended to other travellers

Me and my Partner stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely stay! Staff was right up to help you out , easy access to queen street and city center. Lovely food.We even asked for a early check in and we got that without any issues. Bathroom was huge as well. we had a quiet room as well. They had a special taxi service to the airport which was only $45 for which we paid $85 when we came. We would definitely stay here again upon our next visit to Auckland. Thanks heeps to staff and management for this lovely stay.

A self rated 3.5 Star hotel in the upper part of the city, not far from the infamous K Rd in Auckland.( id certainly say it was more 2 Star )
Paying what I did , my expecations were not set too high.
The King size rooms are clean with a large spacious bathroom.water pressure is far too low though on the shower, making it hard to get wet.
The room itself was an unusual shape , making it difficult to view the tv , fixed on the wall from the seat and lying on the bed.
Storage space is very poor in room offering a small wardobe
Nice big bed, crisp linen and new towels give this room a plus mark .
No air conditioning, made it impossible to sleep at night due to the heat of the summer.
Also the constant chattering and laughing of guests smoking in the street out side the hotel , didnt help the sleep process.
id like to add that i woke up with insect bites all over my body , not sure if this was a due to infestation of fleas in the room , but this was reported to management, who seemed unconcerend, and offered no recompence .
The restaraunt, has absoulotely no aptmosphere, very clinical , and the quality of breakfast ie : the Tropicana consisted of small portion of scrambled eggs, 1x hash brown , 1 x rash of bacon
and toast your self bread, very poor for $12.50
Finally there is one lift to serve the whole 80 bedroom hotel , painfully slow , and cramped when you finally get inside
Overall i doubt i will ever stay at this property again , but i suppose it has a place for the budget traveller, if you dont expect too much for your dollar

Thanks you so much for you time to write feedback. This is very important for us to improve.
Concerned departments are addressing issues raised in your feedback. TV angel is being changed for better view. Pest control contractor has assured there are no bugs and has treated
for fleas in hotel premises. Chef has been instructed to add value to the breakfast menu with
immediate effect. I am sure you will find us much improved during your next visit
