“Great Wedding Venue”
Reviewed 5 March 2013

As a Marriage Celebrant, this beach at the southern end is a great place for a wedding, a 3pm wedding time is good for the sun etc, however parking can be tight, plenty of room and photos turn out so good with the white sand and cliffs as a background.
As for a beach it is very good, as cafes near by easy to get to by bus from downtown (good service) can walk from downtown easy flat walk, would take an hour, by car 20 minutes but parking can be tight. low to high tide this beach is good, safe for children, right by the road so can hear the traffic at times, southern end is not so busy.
Once one had to travel here by ferry but the old wharf site can still be found near middle of the beach

“It's got everything.”
Reviewed 12 January 2013

Beach is great for families or a swim. The water dosn't dip suddenly, leaving it to become deeper slower but not enough for you to walk out for ages. Nice shops nearby and good bathrooms. Recomend coming here.

“The Brighton of Auckland”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

One hundred years ago, when Tamaki Drive did not exist, St Heliers was a seaside retreat accessible mostly by boat and pier. Today, the pier is gone, but the quaint laid back atmosphere continues to exist. St Heliers does not have the hustle and bustle of Mission Bay, but it more than makes up with Vellonweth Green, the distinct shopping district and the holiday atmosphere. Best seen on a summer's afternoon.

“Away from the popular crowded areas”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

The beach at St. Heliers is a must if visiting around the area as it doesn't get as full as the two nearby beaches Mission Bay and Kohimarama. Its a sandy beach with shells but there is plenty of areas where there is just sand and where you can lay your beach towel down and sleep under the sun. Has toilets and restaurants around the beach also.

“Great place to visit .....”
Reviewed 30 December 2011

..... village atmosphere, friendly people, lots of places to eat and have coffee. Delightful walking, splendid views, safe beach for bathing, all this character within 15 minutes by bus from the Britomart transport exchange in the centre of Auckland's waterfront.

What's not to like?
