“Great for a Stroll on the Beach or a Meal”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Not knocking Mission Bay, but I love this place better than Mission Bay. Beach area and waterfront walk is great. And many neat cafés. The new St Heliers Bay Cafe is fantastic, but then there is also Annabelle's and others which are fantastic too. We visit St Heliers at least once a month.

“Well worth the effort..”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

The way to see this amazing bay is to start early and walk or cycle from the main quay in Auckland on the very safe track, all the way to St Helier's.
Take time to stop at the various vantage points for a coffee at one of the many bars and cafes in places like Mission Bay.
When you get to St Helier's there are more fantastic places to drink a glass of chilled wine, or have lunch. Then take a rest sitting on the benches on the seafront, or if its a warm day, take a dip in the sea.
The view on the way back is totally different, dominated by the Skytower rising above the city.
Well worth the effort....

A not-so-hidden gem is Auckland, New Zealand. Featuring a beautiful beach and a fabulous walkway meandering miles along the waterfront. Fine dining, exclusive shopping in a cosy neighbourhood atmosphere. The views are spectacular and the people are very friendly. From seniors to young families, a nice mix abounds. Can't wait to go back!

“By the Seaside”

By taking the most beautiful 12km cycle/drive from the city along Tamaki Drive you get to St Heliers, with its cafes and stunning views of the Waitemata Harbour & Rangitoto. The beach is safe for children to swim. A relaxed and entertaining area, with cafes, restaurants, shops and services. A

“Lovely spot!”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

I am local rather than a visitor to St Heliers, but would just like to share why it is a great place for people to visit. The cafes are lovely, and not nearly as busy as Mission Bay. The beach is much less crowded as well, though granted is a bit more shelly, so jandals recommended. A great children's play area at the far end of the beach, and a lovely walk up to a viewpoint where you look out over Browns and Waiheke Islands. Recommend the Village Co-op for awesome and good value ice cream!
