“Good but not great”
Reviewed 5 October 2013 via mobile

We went to Coco's with a group of friends and we each did the give-course degustation ($80). It started with an amuse Bouche followed by a butternut pumpkin soup, squid, pork belly and finally salmon and I chose the chocolate dessert. The food was fine but nothing hugely memorable. The soup was tasty but was a very small portion. The squid was particularly disappointing as it's size was terribly small. Three tentacles and two pieces of squid meat. This was a let-down. The pork belly was fine and the salmon was lovely. Desserts were fine as well. The entrees were what let this menu down. At $80 a head the dishes are just a bit too small for the price. Particularly unfortunate is the lack of ambience the restaurant has. The place has little in the way of substantial decor to offset its suburban mall location. Good service and a well-priced wine list are pluses. Good but not great and probably wouldn't venture back.

“Coco Restaurant, 126 Symonds St, Royal Oak, Auckland”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

We went on TreatMe Vouchers (4 of us). The food and presentation were faultless. Certainly outstanding for what we paid. Staff were courteous and friendly. Handy spot with good parking. Not the ambience of the "best of the best" but if you want fantastic food with friends I don't think this restaurant can be beaten. We did not have the matched wines as these were not included in our deal but had a very nice bottle of Pinot Gris. Though the wine list was not extensive there were some lovely wines. Altogether a memorable night and we will be back.

“Wonderful night”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

We live near the Coco restaurant and bought a voucher online for our meal. Firstly I must say that we had no trouble booking the night we wanted - always a bonus with an internet deal!

We have eaten many fine dining meals and this one was definitely up there with the best! We were shown to our table and from there the service was impecable. Wonderful, attentive, knowledgeable staff without being too intrusive. We had the six course degustation menu and every course was simply fantastic. Our favourite was the panna cotta but really everything was just a pure treat.

We didn't get the matching wines, instead we had a bottle of sauvignon blanc. We also just ordered the "tap" water - no fancy water needed, the tap water was very good.

I'm not sure I would have wanted to pay full price for the meal - not because the food was not up to standard but more because it is a suburban restaurant and does not quite have the atmosphere of an inner city dining restaurant. Having said that though we had a really delicious, creative meal and I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

“Suburban treat”
Reviewed 13 June 2013

I don't usually eat out at night in restaurants which aren't in the inner city. I had heard about Coco from a review not long after it opened. Then I was lucky enough to be invited there for dinner. ghe food was.incredible, wines well matched, staff attentive but not obtrusive, it was a very special place to go for dinner.

“French with an Asian twist. A gem in suburbia.”
Reviewed 9 June 2013

Had a wonderful meal here at this relatively new establishment. Décor is simple, clean and unpretentious. The cuisine is definitely the star here.
Six course dinner were excellently and competently presented. Ingredients used were fresh and gives you a hint of the South East Asian splendour.

Particularly like the French method and a agreeable nod to the far east.

A very good wine list by Cameron Douglas MS.

Service is very attentive and friendly. Definitely a Gem amongst Royal Oak dining scene. An excellent alternative for fine dining in Auckland with ease of car parking. Highly recommended.

Special mention must be made of the excellent desserts dished out here! A Must try.
