“Good walk with history”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

I've been to North Head 3 times now and it's always a nice walk. It's a great place to take in views of Auckland and surrounds and get away from the craziness.

“great views”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

There are great views across the harbour to Auckland & the islands. There is a road to the top so if you can't walk up, you won't miss out. It's free entry, & that makes it even better.

“How we were protected”
Reviewed 31 January 2014

Being able to walk into the bunkers, and seeing how our 'gun defence' was set up during the war. The walk around the site was refreshing, and informative. A real 'family friendly' atmosphere, with great views of Auckland city, the islands, and coast-line north. Well worth a good 3hr visit

“Fantastic Views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf and the Tunnels etc”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Never disappointed after a visit here. As well as the great views, there are the tunnels and gun emplacements built in the 1880's because of the suspected threat of a Russian invasion. Great place to watch ships, yachts, etc, arriving or leaving the Port. Remember to take a decent torch for the tunnels. And it is all FREE. :-) Then stroll back to Devonport to the shops and cafés.

“A wonderful "free" outdoor experience with a twist.”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

North Head is a great place to go for a walk. Views over the City, Devonport and the Harbour are stunning. It takes about 30 minutes to walk around the coastal pathway, and there are other places to "amble".
North Head is also historically interesting. There are good information displays around the park, and also audio-visual presentations in some of the old buildings.
There is the added excitement of exploring the tunnels, lookouts and gun emplacements which have been built here in the past. Great fun, and a little scary. Worth taking a torch!
It doesn't cost anything to visit North Head, so worth spending a few hours here when you fancy a bit of fresh air, and having a coffee on nearby Devonport on your way home.
