Owner description: AUCKLAND SEAPLANES operates from the Auckland Harbour Aerodrome from where the first pioneering flying boats flew 80 years ago. Fast forward to today; Auckland Seaplane's 8-seater De Havilland Beaver Floatplane can be seen taking off from the heart of the City of Sails and flying to stunning island destinations in the Hauraki Gulf and beyond. Auckland Tourism comments that the Seaplane is an exciting and welcome addition to the Auckland tourism palette, bringing an air of swashbuckling adventure, history and romance to the Wynyard Quarter. A region as vast and majestic as the Auckland region can only be truly appreciated form the air. Our aerodrome is the most convenient departure point for passengers given its walking distance from many hotels, the main shopping district and its good connection to the public transport/ferry network. The Hauraki Gulf's pristine beaches and bays serve as destinations for the seaplane. Passengers can enjoy scenic flights, wine-tastings, dining, overnight stays, transfers, adventure tours, fishing trips in breath-taking locations. The possibilities are endless! Our team is composed of qualified pilots and professionals, eager to provide a unique, first-class experience to locals and tourists alike. We have nationalities covering all corners of the globe, all passionate about showcasing the beauty, culture and possibility of the Auckland Region.

My father's last wish was that his ashes were scattered from a plane. Auckland Seaplanes delivered this wish admirably. They did this with care and respect. At the same time we also had an amazing experience seeing the Hauraki Gulf from the air. We are very familiar with the Gulf and all the islands from our boating days but this was something else again.

Sunny Auckland Sunday morning and we booked 2 seats for Gioia's 60th [it's only a number] with chief pilot Steve and 4 tourists from Germany we warmed up and the Viaduct and headed NW towards the Harbour Bridge and effortlessly lifted off and turned over Bayswater to Hauraki Corner and on to Rangitoto.
The sight of Rangitoto makes the common garden profile look silly as this volcano is quite round from above. The crater was unbelievable and close enough to see in detail.
On to Waiheke and then back down the harbour to land pretty much where we took off. Great trip had by all and an experience everyone should do whether you are a visitor or a JAFA. Awesome is not a big enough word for this and great value.

I took my husband on a Seaplane trip, includung lunch at Oyster Inn, for his 40th birthday.

What an amazing experience it was - a truly special treat for us both. The owner Chris and pilot Steve were charming and welcoming, and the experience of floating out across the harbour, then taking off toward Northhead was just unforgettable.

We flew over the crater of Rangitoto and around the gulf, with an interesting commentary from Steve.

Landing at Oneroa, we took our shoes off and paddled into shore, snapped by locals on the beach!

Oyster Inn was charming and delicious - being greeeting with a glass of chanpagne and a 'happy birthday' was a special touch.

Best of all was pottering back along the beach to our 'ride' parked in the harbour.

I cannot recommend this experience enough.

My wife and I did the Gulf Island Scenic Flight and it was truly amazing. For both of us it was the first time doing a scenic flight in a seaplane. Seen them in the movies many times.
There were many parts to the overall experience that we enjoyed. First, just getting on a plane that floats on the water, WOW how cool. Then the view over the city and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. What a beautiful city. The weather treated us well, as we had blue sky and sunny day.
Steve our pilot, not only flew the plane, but gave us commentary about Auckland, the area, the islands, and also about the plane, which I found fascinating.
Unfortunately we were press for time, otherwise we would have hopped off at Waiheke, looked around the islands and taken the ferry back to Auckland. But in our situation on the day was good, trip total time was 60 minutes.
During the trip we wore headphones so you could hear what Steven was saying, including when he was talking to the officials (getting the OK for take off), which was cool.
Although we went on the 31st May, the day before winter officially starts (01 June) we were not cold in the plane during the trip. The flight was really smooth and we were told that the day we went was perfect, although winter, great conditions for flying because no wind and cooler...which means no airlifts as no warm heat/ temperatures.
The two of us sat in the back row on the way out and front row back. We got great views and images from both. I took my GoPro Silver camera and got some awesome footage.
