This is the original Auckland Cathedral, now sited alongside a much larger brick replacement which is as unattractive as St. Mary's is charming. The old church is completely made of native timbers, glowing kauri throughout, and is utterly beautiful. The windows are generally good, well-coloured, and the organ is a fine instrument when well played. The church has an interesting history, having been moved in one piece clear across Parnell Road in the late 20th century. It's a gentle, welcoming, and very beautiful building. Well worth a visit to top off an exploration of the old Parnell shops.
