“Visual feast.”
Reviewed 10 January 2013

In the rose season the garden is fragrant and inviting. Walk across the grass to the huge pohutukawa tree (NZ "Christmas tree"); the largest I have ever seen. Just below the ridge is a good display of named trees native to NZ

“Too Loud”
Reviewed 4 January 2013

I recently visited Parnell for the first time and sadly the Parnell Rose Garden Venue had a function taking place, the music from there was very loud and continued until late into the evening, at 10.30pm it was still going very loud, I telephoned the hotel to ask them if they could reduce the noise levels as I was very tired from a long flight, I wasnt staying at the hotel I was at a close by one, I got told that the levels couldnt be lowered due to the function and I found them very rude and extremely unhelpful. I think if it wasnt for the rose gardens they wouldnt get much business, especially with their rude attitudes. I certainly wouldnt visit there or suggest it for anybody else. I can appreciate they have functions on but I think they should also respect their neighbours.

“Parnell Rose Gardens - great picnic spot”
Reviewed 19 December 2012

Located above Judges Bay, the Parnell Rose Gardens are very well maintained and the flowers are in season late October through to the end of summer. A special display for heritage roses and flowers is worth checking out: The Nancy Steen Garden - a nice contemplative place to park yourself. Or bring a picnic and set yourself down by the massive Pohutukawa trees on the lawn that overlook Auckland Harbour, the city and - just down the hill - Judges Bay. This is a glittering location for a casual picnic. Each year in the first week of November Auckland City stages the Parnell Festival of the Roses - a weekend when the roses (if not the weather) are in full bloom: a weekend marked by music and a market - a nice highlight on the Auckland calendar if you're in town.

“Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

The Parnell Rose Gardens are well known amongst Aucklanders and a popular stop for tourist buses. The gardens themselves are fantastic and worthy of a visit, but tucked in behind is the hidden treasure that is the Nancy Steen Garden that I suspect is often missed by visitors.

The Nancy Steen garden pays tribute to the old-fashioned rose and the cottage garden. There is a formal, walled white garden that is a delightful, peaceful corner and in front of that, the mixed borders full of tumbling colour. It is a sheer delight and those responsible for it can take enormous pride in the pleasure they give to visitors.

It's very special corner of Auckland.
