Decided to travel the little roads out to this beach on reading about it in guidebooks, looked as though it might disappoint as it is a distance from the city and the back roads are narrow and tricky. However it was well worth it, really interesting to see the glittering black sand and marvel at just how hot it gets in the sun! Big waves were crashing on the shore and the expanse of the beach could be clearly taken in as it opens to a large plain. Walk behind the large dunes and rocks and discover hidden little caves and secret stretches if beach. There is also a track up high that you can walk. Easy to spend a half day here just exploring if you're adventurous enough, or bring pets, didn't seem to be any problem with that, lots of dogs going for walks.
