Description: "A passion for flavour and dedication to detail" Welcome to MASU, the exciting Japanese robata restaurant and bar located in the Federal Street dining precinct. MASU brings atmosphere, passion and a contemporary twist to the traditional robata style of cooking over an open charcoal grill. My philosophy is simple - use fresh local ingredients, enhance the natural flavours of each dish and let the food speak for itself. This pure approach to cuisine is reflected in our clean, natural decor. Add to this a lively, informal atmosphere and you have a beautifully bold and dramatically different style of Japanese dining in the heart of Auckland. Nic Watt

Celebrated a special birthday here. Was a little disappointed as the menu did not appear to have changed at all in the last two years at all. The Soft Shell Crab was marvellous and voted the best by the table! The sake, glorious! Unfortunately my all time favourite - the black cod was not very fresh at all and more than one person around the table noted the same too!

With a business visit to Japan coming up, a group of us thought we'd brush up on our Sake knowledge and see what the good brands were. In true Japanese style it was professional, enlightening and very cultured. Pleasant and enjoyable but not rowdy or drunken and more educational than I expected. Accompanied by some delicious Japanese food we learnt about how sake is made, the types and tastes. I feel a lot more confident now I can order Sake for our customers in Tokyo when we're entertaining them later this month. Well worth the investment. Having been to Japan a couple of times I can say the food has a very authentic Japanese flavour, and if you have more traditional kiwi tastes the staff are helpful in steering you to the right choices because some of the fish flavours can be quite strong.

My husband and I just wanted to share a bottle of a good wine. The darling young man at the bar was so friendly and helpful with our decision. We have eaten here before and the food is so fresh and delicious.
