Waldorf Bankside Serviced Apartments
Reviewed 25 January 2011

A quiet room with balcony. Reasonably clean except, for a few marks on carpet and couch.
Not a lot of storage space if on a long stay and no hangers in wardrobe.
The kitchen facilities are basic but adequate, although the washing machine had a mind of its own !!!
Location is excellent but note that the building is situated on a very steep street.
The main entrance is not the most welcoming but much better inside.
The on site manager was very helpful and understanding.
Overall I thought that the hotel offered good value for money in this location

Thanks for your recent review of Waldorf Bankside.

We are very pleased that you found the apartment to be value for money and that you enjoyed your stay on this occasion. It is also pleasing that you found the Building Manager Murray to be helpful.

Hopefully we have the opportunity to welcome you back to the property soon.

Selected this place after checking out a lot of options on the INTERNET. Turned out to be a very good choice. Some notes for subsequent visitors:
- request a high floor if you want a view and a breeze
- biggest plus is the on-site Building Manager, Murray, who saw to my myriad of demands.
- I enjoyed walking out to the various restaurants and pubs, particularly in the Viaduct area by the harbour
- a few blocks (down the hill) is a large grocery store called "Coundown"which is well worth a visit
- INTERNET and Power outlets are behind the couch, but Murray has extensions cords for both. Note that if you use North American style plugs, you should bring your own adapter as the ones provided by the hotel have compatibility issues
- dryer did not work, but Murray let me use the big industrial one
- Shower had tremendous force and the ventilation was very good in the washroom (mirror did not fog up after shower). Found the water cold when doing early morning showers, but Murray later let me know that was because first user in the morning needs to let it run for a bit (especially from the 17th floor).
- There is now chest of drawers, so be prepared to live out of your suitcase
- my unit did not have AC or bug screens but this was not an issue.
- Kitchen well kitted out and Murray supplied missing items (wine glasses, cutting board, etc). Overn, stove, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee press, all worked OK. The washer worked fine, but the dryer was on holiday.
- I took the Airbus to get to the hotel. This was a mistake as it only lets you off in certain central areas which meant I then had to take a taxi. Might have been more convenient to get the Super Shuttle which goes door to door.
- Price for a self contained apt was excelent at 83 ND per night (~$62 real dollars).
- I did rent a car, from Scottie's and got a good deal. Parked it in the parcade next door for, ~$70 per week. Although the car had 187,000 KM, it ran well enough which is not bad for less than $300 per week unlimited mileage fully insured.
-The problem caused by the Bankside being on top of a hill can be allieviated during most the day by using the elevator in adjacent car parks to get up the hill. I used the one in the Chancellory Car Park.
- Used the gym which required visit to another Wladorf property to get a pass and then go across street for the gym/lap pool. Reasonably well equipped but I am used to a larger facility. Bring your own water bottle and the tunes can be a bit annoying.
- the INTERNET worked well

I would certainly stay here again.

Since I am on a round-the-world trip, I was specifically looking for some places with laundry and kitchen amenities so I could travel light and not spend too much eating out all the time. The Bankside Waldorf met my criteria exactly. While not the most palatial of accommodations (a few pictures on the mostly bare walls might make it more homey), it served its purpose. It is centrally located so if you are on a budget but don't want to go the backpacker route and need additional amenities, check this place out. One note about the location. If you are walking, it is up an incline. Not a huge one. But if you've been out all day, have packages, and are tired, you might want to grab a taxi back.

i stayed at Waldorf bankside and really enjoyed myself. It is located close to everything I needed. The room was excellent, the onsite manager was really helpful and was there 24hours as I saw him patroling the building late at night making sure everything was going well. Good to know that someone is there although the building is secure. Also helpful and easy to approach and have a little chat, the room had everything i needed. it is a great place to stay. I did not expect all this with the low rate i paid for my stay, i would be coming back when next I visit Auckland and would recommend to all my family and friends. I have worked in the hosptiality industry for many years and Bankside is great compared to many others. I also know other people who work in hotels are always critical of other hotels, as I have read the reviews.
