Our overall experience was fine, not great but fine...
Upon arrival we were surprised with a $250 security deposit which was payable by credit card which needed to be payed, with no information given to us about that prior to arriving.
When we got into the first room there was someones clothes in the cupboard, and some leftover food in the fridge, and as a request that the room be nice for a honeymoon couple, the fact that there were only 2 single seat sofas didn't really cut it.
Don't get carried away thinking you will be full after breakfast, as it consists of a banana, a yogurt, a gross muffin and a dry muesli bar and a poppa. not very appetizing.
There was however a lovely receptionist (Kate) who helped me find another room and was very helpful with my touristy questions throughout the week.
Was moved to a much more substantial 2 bedroom unit that i could at least stretch my arms out in and not be touching the walls.

Room Tip: If you want a view try and get level 5 or higher... and comfort wise if you're there for a week...

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you so much for your praise of one of our staff members. All our team actively read Trip Advisor and Guest Feedback and it is much appreciated that you have taken the time to write good things about a particular member. Feedback really is a great driver in ensuring we as a property can keep striving to the high standards we have.

Thank you for your feedback regarding cash bonds. I am disappointed to read that you had trouble upon check in with your credit card / cash bond. It is very clear on our website and all other 3rd party websites that a credit card and a valid photo i.d is a requirement upon check in at our property. Further, when a credit card is not available a cash bond will be a requirement upon check in for any incidental charges that may apply during your stay with us. When a credit card is presented no cash bond is required. Please note that this is an industry standard and not property specific. Most properties in fact do not allow cash bonds and instead have the simple requirement that a credit card is a must.

Take care and I hope next time upon staying with us it is an easier experience.

Warm Regards,

Udai Sarin

A clean studio unit/apartment with adequate kitchen facilities. A small breakfast (consisting of yoghurt, a muffin, a muesli bar and a fruit) is included. We stayed three people in an apartment for four, and got four breakfasts to share.

Only drawback was that in our apartment (801), some part of the hotel's ventitlation was mounted close to our bedroom, so every time someone used their bathrooms we clearly heard a motor (or three) spin up. Irritating the first night, then you got used to it.

The service staff was friendly and knowledgeable - reception could advice both of the city, car rentals, and things-to-do.

This is not a five star hotel so please don't expect that when you stay here. If you are after a services apartment close to the CBD than its perfectly fine. They provide you with a continental breakfast pack every night consisting of a muffin, muesli bar, banana, yoghurt and juice. If you are the cooked breakfast type go to New World to purchase your supplies as the kitchen is well equipped so you can do your fry up. I found the continental breakfast more than adequate.
Two only issues were wifi is extremely slow and given past review management is aware of it but it still hasn't been addressed. Parking is very limited and the car park is very small, be careful as it would not be hard to hit a concrete pole down there. Rooms arent huge but i didnt find space to be a problem. Apart from that it's a good option for those looking to self cater when staying in Auckland.

First off, I would like to say a few positive things - The staff were friendly and proffessional, and the location is good if you want to explore the greater CBD area, as it is fairly easy walking distance to the harbour, Queen street and also K-Road in the other direction. Reviewers have mentioned the mission down the road, however we didn't find this to be a problem, a few colourful characters out front perhaps but they didn't give us any cause for concern, and you could easily go around it via other streets if you are concerned.

However - this hotel was advertised to us as 4+ stars. It is not. Facitilities are basic, rooms are fairly modern and adequately sized (not large) but nothing special. Our room was supposedly an 'executive' apartment, however I cannot see what makes it 'executive', unless 'executive' means you get an extra small single bedroom (which we didn't request or need) and disable facilities (again which we didn't request or need).

Our room was on the first floor so it had no real view, unless you count the carpark, and no balcony. I'd have thought the executive suite would be of a higher standard in this area.

Room was a bit scruffy, marks on the walls and what appeared to be a small patch of mould in the shower, but wasn't horribly unclean.

Breakfast was laughably poor. It was complimentary so there isn't much point in complaining about it, but it consisted of a hard muffin, a muesli bar, a banana and a tub of bland yogurt. Not up to scratch for a 4+ Hotel.

Wi-fi as other people have mentioned was extremely slow and we gave up using it. Again it is complimentary but my advice to travellers who require wi-fi to not expect it to be adequate.

Overall the hotel is ok, I'd consider it about 3-3+ stars. I've stayed in Oaks hotels in other cities before (listed as 4 stars) and found them to be considerably better. I have not seen what a standard apartment looks like, however I feel that an upgrade to an 'executive' is a waste of money.

Room Tip: Don't bother upgrading to an executive apartment! Expect 3 star quality only.

Thank you for your comments about the complimentary Wi-Fi. We are one of the few properties in New Zealand that offer complimentary Wi-Fi to all guests. It is disappointing to hear that our service did not work as it should have. This is something we will address and fix – perhaps there may have been a weak signal in the room you were staying in – none the less if you could please email me your room number it would be helpful in rectifying the problem for future guests. My email is – udai@vrgroup.co.nz

Thank you for your comments about the complimentary light in room breakfast pack (fresh fruit, freshly baked muffin, fruit juice, spreads, premium tea coffee including Moccana and Dilmah, fresh yogurt and a New Zealand made muesli bar). We are one of the few properties in New Zealand that offer complimentary breakfast to all guests. It is disappointing to hear that our service did not work, as it should have. This is something we will address and fix – perhaps there are other options we could look at such as a choice of cereals and milk – none the less, thank you for your feedback – it is something that will help in rectifying the problem for future guests.

Take care and safe travels back to Brisbane.

Good location to base ourselves from for 3 days in Auckland.
Unfortunately our first night did not leave a good taste and it was hard after that not too find fault with the hotel.
Late evening our two teenage girls (14years) were in their PJ's watching TV when there was a knock on the door and immediately the swipe card was used and in walks a tall man, scared the girls and they were on edge for the remainder of the stay, even when the door accross the hall was opened they half expected someone to walk in on them again. It was a staff member delivering the next mornings breakfast items. I note from other feedback this is not an isolated incident and appears management are not doing anything to train their staff. I know they are probably in a hurry to get around all units, but our personal safety and security is paramount.
The room itself was adequate, but furniture was out of the 70"s, very hard couch and with 4 of us only 3 could seat comfortably the other person had to use the dining chairs.
Breakfast would be ok for one night stays, but 3 days of the same fare was too much and it needs variety.
Unlimited wifi was ok the only problem was having to log in every time you want to use it, very annoying and a new password/userid each day (sometimes more than once). Would be better if you were given one password for your whole stay and it reconnected automatically.
Room was pretty noisy with police sirens and a herd of elephants in the room above us.
Overall i would rate this as satisfactory, but would not stay there again and when you add in the cost of parking with the daily rate, not really value for money we thought.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back of the hotel
