Quest on Queen

Great central location. Our apartment was above a popular pub, but the noise was minimal with closed doors and drawn heavy drapes.( Earplugs were supplied for noise-sensitive guests). The attention to detail in our apartment was faultless .. plunger coffee and chocolate biscuits in addition to the normal hotel consumables. Free wifi and free morning paper from reception, but no breakfast provisions as described in other reviews. The apartment was compact but it was immaculate and fantastically equipped with large modern fridge/freezer, full cooking facilities, and comfortable living area. We had to pay $22.50 a night extra for off-site nearby parking, but we paid only $104 a night for the apartment on a special offer, so this was all-up a bargain for the location and quality of the accommodation.

Central downtown with free car park. Clean studio apartment with kitchenette and breakfast provisions provided. Very convenient to walking central Auckland. So much to do and see and many free entertainment events while we were there in the parks and museums. Great French restaurant just across the street from the hotel. The front desk staff was uniformly polite and helpful with all having a good sense of humor. Free loocal newspapers and an onsite bar restaurant for those interested. Being New Yorkers, we appreciated the cleanliness of Auckland and the helpfulness of the citizens. Had a great time and would stay here again anytime.

We stayed here twice when we were in New Zealand in March, 2 days before heading off to explore NZ and on our return prior to leaving NZ. I must say these apartments were just the ticket, they provided good accommodation, laundry facilities in the room and basically everything you needed to get straight if like us you were travelling for weeks. The location on Queen street was great for shops, restaurants, (try The Sails and Bangkok, the food is great), and the harbour (down hill going, uphill coming back). The staff were outstanding, so friendly and helpful. We will definately go back when in NZ.

Stayed here for 5 nights in a 1 bedroom apartment. Central to everything in the city, including a supermarket. Buffet breakfast or breakfast provisions were supplied free of charge. Room was clean, tidy and everything worked. Huge bathroom with washing machine and dryer. Big lounge room with 2 couches and some pay tv stations. Kitchen was adequately equipped. Would have been good if we could get out on balcony but there was and airconditioning unit there and was unable to open door. Car park has 3 underground levels which is free but it is very tight to drive around in and doesn't have many spaces. Very friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced. A little bit noisey at night time with sirens, but that always seems to be there way in any city around the world these days

Room Tip: Book a one bedroom apartment

we needed something relatively central to everything in down town auckland so this Quest property rated well for that.

But really that's where it ended. The publicity photo really doesn't give the correct impression and really Quest should sell it for what it is rather than imply its a hotel type serviced apartments more suited for long term overseas students.

The main doorway, and that term is used in the Best possible terms, consists of a single door with a self closer attached that at every opportunity tries to rip one's arms off or sever ones suitcase from your grip. We arrived late read the instructions on how to enter the "door" punched in the numered code and once inside opened the interior safe to retrieve our key, taking heed to ONLY REMOVE YOUR OWN KEY !!!

Struggle down the corridor with cases against a flow of departing chinese students. Push the lift button (only one lift) fit ourselves into it (how on earth did all those students fit in??? and assuming first number of key related to floor arrive at room.

Open the door and discover the room, very conveniantly laid out so that once inside one can stand in the centre of the "lounge" look south straight into the dining room of the waterfront Mercure hotel, turn west and you look into one's bedroom, turn north and you look into your wardrobe, turn east and you look into the passageway/toilet. So everything within a couples of steps which is just so conveniant.

There is a balcony overlooking the Mercure and bits of the Harbour and double opening windows overlooking well known "Fort Street" bars and entertainment. Unfortunately the noise from such is quite loud. However Quest has thought of this and have provided earplugs on top of the bedside cabinet.

As they say one gets these little luxuries when you are paying.

Morning couldn't come soon enough and we were out getting breakfast which was close.

Not really much more to say. Maybe suited to students or maybe single person intending to be out of the room most of the time.

Certainly the aroma drifting up from the lift shafts certainly puts one in the frame of mind for a tasy chinese meal....and you do eventually get used to the door buzzer alowing egress onto Queen street, I felt like I had to give my old MN number as I exited.

Room Tip: Seemingly a C room is quieter. Certainly the ones that are side on to Fort Street is really noisy.

Rooms with A & B suffixes overlook a nightclub. Consistent withncomments from some other reviewers, the noise is terrible and comtinued in to the small hours of the morning. fine if you like to party, but terrible if you have business meetings the following day. I struggled to sleep with ear plugs in and two pillows over my head. Reception is unstaffed from mid-evening, so I was not able to resolve the problem once the night club started up.

The staff are pleasant and helpful and relocated me to a room facing Queen Street for the second night. Rooms are cleaned to an acceptable, if not consistently high standard. For example, the carpet in my first room had not been vacuumed and the kitchen floor was sticky. The shower surrounds are also dirty ( small mould patches and general soap scum)

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the Queen St side unless you can sleep through an all night rave.
