I was hoping that the room would be a bit better than it was based on the very modern and welcoming entrance foyer. Tiny beds and rooms are very dated. We stayed in a twin room and really struggled with the lack of space. Cannot fault the friendly staff or the location.

As other reviewers have accurately pointed out, this is a budget property only suitable for transiting purposes. However, on the positive side of the ledger , the Management were very helpful and kind while it is an easy place to pick up transport to the Airport from, especially of an early morning.
It was pleasing to note that the front desk staff were so responsive to ours and other guests' needs. This isn't always the case for budget properties.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms facing Wyndham St. are a bit better.

This time, I would like to share my experience staying at Ibis Styles Auckland last week. As both of me and my wife needed a room in a decent hotel to stay for several hours in the city during our first night in New Zealand, we decided to stay in this hotel as it was centrally located in CBD and during our reservation, Accorhotels offered a special (inexpensive) rate.

Moreover, it's located no more than 100 m from the Airbus's stop # 4 on route Auckland airport to its final destination in CBD area. Check-in was quite efficient and prompt as I had contacted them, prior to my arrival, and let them knew that we both would arrive before check-in time at 2:00 pm.

They assigned a studio room in the top floor but when I arrived in the hotel, I noticed the lobby condition was similar to the one in a backpacker's lodging than in a proper hotel. In this case, I fully agreed with one of the recent reviews in Tripadvisor which described this particular hotel similar to backpacker's accommodation.

When we arrived in the top floor and got out from the elevator, we sensed most of the reviews in Tripadvisor, on this particular hotel were accurate. As we entered our room, we immediately smelled such a strong food odor which could be resulted from previous guest(s) who stayed in our room before.

If my assumption was accurate then I still wonder how a hotel would allow that thing to happen ? Room condition was not great but for us, it was still acceptable for several hours' stay but not longer than a full day stay as we both definitely could not deal with room condition especially with its bathroom which had an awkward layout (in my opinion).

However, the positive point besides its location was the fact that we got quite a nice view from our room's balcony. Another negative fact was the noise level from a bar somewhere either in the hotel or nearby the hotel. Although the hotel provides ear plug (funny but it's true), we both (still) couldn't get a good sleep that night.

The only thing I would not gave this hotel a lower rating was the fact the management was quite accommodating to all our request by preparing everything they could prior to our arrival and we both did really appreciate it.

Although I personally quite hesitate in recommending this hotel this time but its central location can be seriously considered by anyone who wanted to be around in CBD area but please do read all reviews carefully and don't have a high expectation with this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get room in higher floor as you stand a chance in getting a good view

Rooms are old and not well kept. The one we were in had a foul smell coming from the toilet. Windows were difficult to close and have to ask for a small plug in heater to keep warm at nights. Free breakfast is not buffet, just a tiny box with dry foods.
On the plus side, the manager Abischek was nice and helpful. He suggested a room change which we were reluctant as all the rooms had similar design. He helped us book another hotel, Mercure nearby.

As the title implies, the room was small, but well appointed and everything we needed. It was right on the main road, but we didn't hear any traffic noise at all and had a good night's sleep. The bathroom was tiny, but also well appointed and altogether it was a good experience.
