“This Hotel Has Changed Name/Brand”
Reviewed 10 October 2009

To Tripadvisor: just to let you know that the hotel has been renamed from Formule1 to All Seasons Hotel, which effectively changes its brand level within the Accor hotel group. I believe this happened from 1 October 09 onwards.
The room prices have gone up (lowest rate I booked in September was under NZD 50 per night, lowest rate I can find now is around NZD 70 per night), and service levels have increased (rooms serviced daily rather than twice weekly as they did before). Other than that it appears that things have remained the same. It is still a good value hotel in a central location.

**Rating based on a 2 1/2 star hotel (New Zealand standard), meaning little/no service is available in room, with service that are available require an extra charge, room are generally still of a comfortable/acceptaple condition**

Im also basing this review on the usually rate per night, of NZ$50 (see wotif) to NZ$75 per night.

This hotel provides very exceptional value, and is in a very central location.

Great place to stay and very consistant due to being owned by the Accor group of Hotels, (Sofitel, Mercure,Novotel, Ibis etc) , so your still guaranteed comfortable beds, (but lower cost models compared to the companies higher brands), black out curtains (important for international travel) , and clean and consistant rooms. Basicly its one down from the companies Ibis brand, but at a lot cheaper rate.

Don't expect any service in the rooms (besides house keeping), its not part of the brands low cost but consistant business model ,(so don't expect that room service meal, or bucket of ice soon !). If you want more than a glass, a mug and a teaspoon, (like knives and folks), be prepared to pay for them. If you like me though and eat out then you travel its not a problem. If you are visiting Auckland with children, or want to spend more time in your room, is prob not the best place to stay, due to additional cost of some services, and no lesure activities (pool/ gym etc). Although there is a cafe downstairs,(with limited hours), and the hotel is right in the city (with many things to see and do).

The rooms are in a more than acceptable condition, but are tiny (like really small), but are very cleaverly designed (which kind of gives them a trendy feeling also).

I have stayed in all classes of places in Auckland, from the Hilton Hotel to the Formula 1. While I will still stay in more higher end hotels for most trips, the Formula 1 will def be a very strong consideration for a budget trip away.

Def the best hotel in its class in Auckland.

Formule 1 is in the middle of CBD and close to everything. rooms are in reasonable sizes (some are small but ok). some issues were not having a 24Hrs reception and the room was a bit smelly and the price is a little bit too much for such a room. but in general it wasnt that bad.

The rooms are very small, but it's clean and the location is good. I like it since I was travelling as a student and my budget was limited.

OK, I will begin by saying some of the reviews of this Hotel almost made me cancel the stay I had planned there. I was in Auckland for 4 weeks and pre-booked the room with a deposit. On arrival (and wary of some of the things I had read on the internet) I only paid the first few days up front... just in case. In the end our stay was both comfortable and convenient. The rooms was similar in design to those on cruise ships. Clever use of space (drawers under the bed, cupboards tucked away behind the door etc). I was impressed with the layout.

we were on the 13th floor and from the small balcony had a view of the harbour. The sliding doors opened up and allowed fresh (cold) air in when needed.

I was aware that while a microwave, jug, 2 cups, teaspoons and a hob/benchtop stove were provided- crockery and utensils have to be rented at an extra cost. Because we were there so long we went out and brought these- set us back very little.

I would recommend the hotel to anyone on business or on a budget (or both). I will be staying there on my next visit in July/August for sure.

I got a great deal on the internet for 3 nights stay at Formula 1, the cheapest I have ever paid for a room - so I wasn't expecting too much.
The hotel's best point is its location, followed by its minimalist funky interior. I found the room and bed comfortable and clean enough although absolutely no extras are included (which I was aware of). Bring your own coffee/shampoo etc if you can.
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff varied.
My only complaint is that my room had two little square windows over the bed that had no curtains which meant at night I was on display for the hotels across the road (poor them), and I woke up as soon as the sun came in.
If I got a room there for the same price again, I wouldn't go anywhere else.
