I often find B&Bs can be very hit and miss - Sunderland house is definitely a hit. You are warmly welcomed to a wonderfully furnished house. Donald and Kathy are the perfect hosts and are attentive and friendly but never intrusive. Nice touches include home baked treats and port in the rooms. Breakfast is delicious with home baked muffins included. The location is ideal in a quiet and upmarket suburb; well serviced by public transport and in easy reach of the city. We would not hesitate at staying here again the next time we visit Auckland.

We always love it when we are regarded as a 'hit' and thank you for such a positive review. We love to bake, make our guests feel welcome and most of all enjoy the total business of operating and personalizing our Bed & Breakfast purpose built home. Thank you again and we trust we will see you again soon,
Warm Regards
Donald & Kathy

Thank you Donald and Kathy for a truly wonderful stay in your exquisite Herne Bay B&B. Everything about it was marvellous. Your attention to detail could not be faulted as was the warmth of your greeting and hospitality. And we just loved the Anderson Tartan chairs! Thank you again for such a memorable, albeit too short a visit to Sunderland House.

It is important to us to know we are continuing the way we set out, to achieve with "Top Rating Excellence" Your review has well highlighted that for us and thank you so much for taking time out to write it. The look of our new AndersonTartan Dining Chairs has been well received, interestingly by sheer chance we have had quite a few "Anderson's" stay with us since. We feel, Interior design within the B & B is all about providing a unique quality environment, relaxed and welcoming hence becoming part of the journey for our guests.
Thank you again,
Donald & Kathy Sunderland

We stayed at Sunderland House in mid-October for a very special occasion and we were completely blown away by every single aspect of the property and our experience of staying with Donald & Kathy. We have been re-miss in not leaving this review sooner but that should not detract from the complete delight we felt about staying there. We have already booked our next visit in December and are looking forward to returning enormously. Donald's Walnut Bread is simply outstanding!

You were absolutely wonderful to have stay and thank you for the review. It has taken much experimenting and testing in the kitchen to create my now "secret" recipe bread. We are looking forward to your return in December and being able to tempt you with more delights.

Top notch B&B! Donald and Kathy were attentive and friendly hosts, even late at night we received a very warm welcome. The rooms were immaculate and beautifully decorated, the attention to detail did not go unnoticed! Lovely breakfast too and we were even sent away with a goodie bag. Thank you!

We appreciate you taking time out to write such a marvelous review. As a professional interior designer it is always great to share our decorative skills and have guests appreciate the smaller details which make up the big picture and at the same time feel completely relaxed and comfortable. Late night and early morning arrivals are always welcome. On hand there is either a late night port or an early morning muffin waiting.

Kind regards
Donald & Kathy Sunderland

You are most welcome back anytime and thank you for your review. The great part of operating a B & B is the different nationalities that stay. You were our first guests from Finland and indeed a great pleasure for us to meet, we were so glad that we were able to recipricate with our warm hospitality
Kind regards

Our online booking was followed up with a personal email with helpful hints and tips for our arrival to Auckland. That is the measure that Donald and Kathy put into our stay. Their place is not in the city centre, however there is a fantastic, easy to use, bus service minutes away. There are lots of local great places to eat, from 10 course taster menus to fish and chips, just a short stroll. Plenty of tea/coffee/Homemade cake/cookies etc available for guests to help themselves at any time. We would not hesitate to stay there again and after 10 days is NZ, this was by far the best place.

On line booking can be quite impersonal & program generated, hence we feel a follow up personal confirmation with helpful hints puts minds at rest in that your booking hasn't got lost in cyber world and any further questions can be easily answered. Thank you for such a wonderful review and regarding us as the "best stay of your trip" - That makes what we do all the more worth while,
Kind regards

From the moment we saw the personalized KIA ORA welcome sign outside the door of Sunderland House, we knew we had chosen a gem. Donald greeted us in his warm, welcoming manner and throughout our three night stay was extremely kind, courteous, helpful and mindful of our privacy. We spent the first two nights upstairs in the Grand Premier Room (with a lovely view of the Sky Tower and downtown Auckland) and then, due to availability, switched to the equally charming, elegant, spotless and comfortable Green Room on the same floor. It was a pleasure to be a guest in this delightful, custom built home, full of tasteful furnishings (beautiful antiques as well) and art. We really appreciated being able to leave our luggage in the room and freshen up later, on the day of our evening flight home. All the little touches in the rooms were noticed and appreciated. The bountiful home baked and tasty breakfasts (so carefully thought out), were a delight each morning, as we gathered on the outdoor patio by the tranquil garden. The public spaces of the house were cosy and relaxing. What an ideal home to return to after a day out. We loved the variety of architecture in the Herne Bay neighbourhood and we could easily walk down to the beach. (end of Wallace Street). It was convenient to be able to walk to Andiamo Restaurant on nearby Jervois Road and also visit the 'uber cool' shops and restaurants of Ponsonby Road; a very short car or bus ride away. It was helpful having a shared kitchen outside our door; always brimming with cookies and cakes to tempt us, yet having the convenience of a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. For an exceptional experience in a quiet neighbourhood, close to downtown Auckland, I would highly recommend Sunderland House. Donald and Kathy are true innkeepers.

This is such a marvelous review and thank you for such positive feed back. It is always a pleasure to have appreciative guests who not enjoy my home baking but the entirety of what Sunderland House has to offer. Also to enjoy our beautiful district with fine restaurants, shops and cafes, quiet yet so close to the CBD (3km).
Warmest regards and glad we made a memorable experience for you, Donald & Kathy
