With a breathtaking view overlooking Mission Bay and Auckland CBD, you should not miss this place. The place is breezy; it's very refreshing.

We arrived in Auckland and left the airport in the coach to get to the Memorial Park before the sun went down. After a nice ride we arrived to a brisk but not too cold place of serenity. The architecture was attractive with the correct amount of gravitas without being too heavy or ornate. The obelisk was a beautiful centerpiece. The gardens were well kept and flowering even though it was the dead of winter for Auckland. The grass was not soggy even after the downpour we missed prior to our arrival and the paths and slightly rolling mounds allowed for great photo opportunities. We captured some amazing images.
Additionally the small toilet facility was very clean and well stocked. After a long plane trip and bus ride it was quite nice to have well tended facilities.

Bastion Point looks out over the Waitamata harbour and is a great place to view the activities. It is a great place to stop if you are taking a drive of the waterfront and is close to other attractions if you are on the tourist trail. Bastion point has had an interesting history since European settlement and was the site of large land protest in the late 70's. The site was occupied by protesters for over a year although there is little mention of it today.

The Bastion Point lookout sits on top of a hill and you drive past Kelly Tarlton's on the way there.

It has a nice garden on the bottom of a few stairs and sitting at the end is the memorial statue.

Surrounding the statue is a well cared for lawn and on the left hand (facing towards the ocean) is an excellent view of the ocean and harbour area.

There is a toilet nearby so no worries there :)

On the right hand side is a hidden pathway to some cafes (we didn't go as it seemed a little far). But it's recommended supposedly if you have time.

Overall, an interesting place to get some great photos and views but unless you go for a stroll to nearby cafes, that's about it.

A delightful spot from which there are stunning views of the activities in the harbour and Rangitoto island. The gardens are carefully tended and great for gentle strolling around, or you can just sit and take in the scenery.
