“Superior food and service in cool surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

Attentive, professional service and delicious food. The pork belly starter was tasty with a lovely blend of textures followed by the best NZ lamb - all beautifully presented with great timing and competent advice re wine choices etc. Pleasant buzzy atmosphere provided by the local monied set - very stylish.

The place was very nice. The service was good but slow. We had the lobster which was delicious. Unfortunately the stake tasted terrible and the Jaffa desert was dry and the chocolate to rich. The food did not meet expectations especially for the price.

“Stunning”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2014

Beautifully decorated restaurant with a luxe and welcoming atmosphere, excellent professional and friendly service and delicious mouth-wateringly good fine food. Well worth the taxi ride. A hidden gem we were very happy to discover. Though we only ate at one other restaurant on our trip, I'm sure this is one of Auckland's best restaurants. Book it, you'll love it.

“Top notch, but not your normal street front area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2014

Cibo is a top quality restaurant with great friendly service, excellent food and a great wine list.
It is not for the budget conscious. It is in more of industrial location set among old warehouses some of which have been converted into apartments in St Georges Bay Parnell. There is no bay there now, but it was close to Auckland's original water front. If arriving by car there is plenty of off street parking behind the restaurant in the side street. It's then just a short flight of steps down to the restaurant level from the car park. You can also walk in from street level. The building was originally a Nestle Chocolate factory with very high ceilings in the restaurant. This means the conversational noise does not become intrusive. My venison main course had a small mound of ground up cocoa beans as an adornment, I guess giving a link to the history of the place. There is a big selection of inviting foods, plus the waiter will tell you about extra things that are available as well. You can sit indoors or out, but it's a little dependent on the weather although there are outside coverings and heaters.
This not the sort of place you will find many tourists, unless they are "in the know" as it is not in a typical street front location, but it is very handy to anyone visiting Parnell and you will join the locals who enjoy good food and service. As it was an anniversary, without prior knowledge the restaurant also looked after us in a special way, but I'm not saying how as I will leave it as a surprise should you visit for a special occasion. Yes we will go back, but not too often, I wouldn't want to spoil the treat.
