I can't recommend this place enough. We stayed in the upstairs penthouse apartment. It was the most awesome, unobstructed view of the beach you will get (no road in front of you, just grass, then beach). We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine and enjoying the view. Note that there is surfclub and beach parking area next to the apartment, so you will see some people about, but it also means you are 30 seconds away from the swimming zone.
Our hosts, Dennis and Dail, live in the unit downstairs, but the penthouse apartment has it a separate entry and is very private.
There was just the two of us staying in one bedroom, so we only had to pay $150 a night for this place, which was exceptionally reasonable. The place came with a fully equipped, modern kitchen and cooking appliances (including dishwasher...although we had some trouble getting the tablets/powder to work) and 1 litre of milk to get us started.
The apartment was beautifully furnished and we had free wi-fi (although signal strength was patchy in a few places in the house).
The shower/bathroom were great, and they provided beach towels for us to use. The bed was comfy (not the best bed we had on the trip, but it did the job). We were able to park our car in the garage, and have access to the laundry downstairs (no dryer, but there is an airer).
The apartment is also located next to the esplanade walking path, which takes you past the Captain Cook statue and through to the marina, where there are nice places to eat and drink.
Dennis and Dail were lovely hosts that were happy to share their knowledge about the area.
