“Good deal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2012

We didn't book but arrived late afternoon on a cold wet day and were offered a top floor room for 135 n.z. dollars which was good value. The girl on reception was pleasant and friendly and this encouraged us to stay. We had also gone to the apts. next door which were lovely but not offering such a good deal. Our room was large with a king bed, a settee and chairs ,kitchen area and a big spa bath . There was also a separate shower room and w.c. Everything was clean and comfortable and we had a good view of the sea which was spectacularly rough and great to watch from the comfort of our room. It was a short walk to shops and restaurants however the bad weather prevented us from walking too far and we did spend more time than usual in the room. There was free car parking but the best places were on a first come first served basis. We enjoyed staying here for two nights and slept with the windows slightly open. Despite being near the road we were not disturbed by traffic noise only the sound of the sea.

Room Tip: Higher floor gives better view and less road noise but remember all the stairs to carry up the suitc...

This was the second time we have stayed at this motel. The location is very good with town only a short walk away. The views out over the sea are great. We found the staff very helpful. Parking is a bit tight in places. The room was spacious, spotless a comfortable bed and had a large round spa bath in the room. The step to get into the bath was a bit wide for those with short legs! Free internet would have been nice. We will stay here again.

What a great hotel. Our room was spotless, comfortable and had everything we needed plus more. We were able to walk into town and had a beautiful view over the water. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Couldn't fault it!

Great rooms - clean, spacious and modern, although kitchenette area was a bit tight. We had a ground floor unit right on the road, with a great sea view, and although as other reviewers have mentioned, there was some noise from container lorries coming out of the port, it only started around dawn, so didn't disturb us in the night. (We could anyway have decamped into the smaller back bedroom). Yes, there are also occasional people walking past on the pavement right outside the room, but we didn't find that particularly intrusive. Agree with other comments about pay-for wi-fi; this was one of the very few places we stayed at in NZ where it wasn't included in the room rate and for that price it really should be. Nautilus' location is an easy walk into town and Napier itself is very attractive and well worth a visit.

I stayed here with my daughter as part of our tour around NZ. the sitting room which included a small, but perfectly formed cooking area, was large as was the bedroom and bathroom. The former had a spa bath.
The cooking facilities here were contemporary and looked new - utensils were provided.
There was an army of cleaning women here, who did a fantastic job. Thank you to them and to the management, who clearly know their trade.

We stayed one night and liked it a lot.
Only real black mark was no free wifi - many places are now offering this and at this level it should be standard. Essential for travellers.
Other than that, very hard to fault. Great room, comfy bed, plenty of seating and sofas plus a good kitchen area with everything we needed to cook our own breakfast.
Location excellent too - 5 min walk to town along marine parade.
Very friendly too.

We found booking in March and the rates were very good. We had beach views magnificent to wake up to, but the trucks were very very loud and we didn't think. If we stayed again we would stay away from the beach views. The rooms were spotlessly clean and couldn't fault it in any way. Loved the decor.

Room Tip: Away from road noise.
