The Landing

We had an exquisite stay at the Landing.

My family and I decided to stop over in Napier on our trip from Rotorua down to Wellington and it was simply one of the best decisions we made on the holiday.

We were welcomed to the Landing by Jill armed with tea and biscuits and a briefing about Napier the town as well as the restaurants around for our enjoyment. She is definitely the best concierge we came across in New Zealand, armed with an arsenal of knowledge about what to do and see. Napier itself is a lovely town and I just wish we had more time to wander the streets and peruse the little stores.

The BnB itself is beautifully located. The Bayview suite where my parents stayed had an outstanding view overlooking the ocean as well as an en suite bathroom. My sister and I shared the Lookout Room and we could not have been happier. The pictures certainly do not do this lovely house any justice. We were lucky enough to be driving through and had a vehicle at our disposal so getting to and from the BnB was not a hassle for us. However, it is situated a little way away from the town and up a couple of steep hills so walking isn't always advisable.

The rooms were modern, neat and tidy, just like staying at a fancy friend's house. Jill, as the ideal host, provided us with tea and the most divine biscuits upon our arrival but her real accomplishment was breakfast in the morning full of fresh fruit and home-made peanut butter which made leaving very difficult! The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms cosy.

I simply cannot say a bad thing about our stay in Napier except that maybe it was a little too short! A must do stop-over in the Northern Island!

Oh and Jill and her husband were lovely enough to book dinner on Christmas Eve for at the most divine restaurant called Milk and Honey, definitely worth a visit!

Jill and Allan are the perfect B&B hosts, offering rooms in their own home where customers are truly guests. The house is a modern design high in a neighborhood overlooking the bay- the views are incredible! The trade-off for this spectacular location is it is 20-25 minutes walk on some steep hills into town- if you have a car that is no issue. Of course they are such great hosts that they provided most of our rides up and down the hills. The house is a beautiful modern structure, handsomely furnished and decorated. Ours was the most compact room, but wonderfully furnished, with a microwave, refer and sink- and a wonderful bottle of NZ wine waiting when we checked in! We had an excellent bed with very good- excellent linens, towels and amenities. You could sit in the private courtyard and have the tea and cookies that were waiting for you while using the complementary internet if you wanted to. Or better yet sit in the large comfortable common area, enjoy the fabulous views and chat with the other guests and Jill and Allan. Breakfasts were wonderful and got our days of exploring off to a good start. This is about as good as a B&B in a modern structure gets- the hosts are as good as any B&B around. Value received- Memories made!

Jill and Allan were wonderful hosts offering advice on what to see in Napier and surrounds. We stayed in the bayview suite which has lovely views over the bay and is tastefully decorated. The breakfasts were terrific, including home made jams, fresh fruit and cooked fare. The house is immaculate, with superb views.

We stayed here for 2 days in December and really loved it.

We had the room up at the top of the house which gives you fantastic views over the bay and has a tonne of space.

The house is beautiful and is in a great location - you can walk back to Napier and, equally, walk around to Ahuriri where we ate in some great places (including Provodore) recommended to us by Jill.

We really enjoyed meeting Jill and Allan. They made us feel right at home and are really great in making you feel that you can make use of the house. We found their advice on where to visit and where to eat was spot on and we really enjoyed breakfasts chatting to Jill while sitting out on the balcony looking at the bay.

This is the only place I'd think about staying if I was heading back to Napier. It's as simple as that :-)

We spent 2 nights in Napier and received a charming and friendly welcome, feeling more like house guests than paying customers. Nothing was too much trouble and breakfasts were memorable, just ask for whatever you fancy and Jill serves it up. Fantastic views and a real find. Deserves it's top spot for the welcome alone!

An excellent location for watching the sun set and not too far from town, the wineriers or the airport. We only stayed on night, but Jill met us, suggested things to do in Napier and grab a byte to eat. She also gave us access to the front room and told us about whale sightings that occasionally happen there. Where it got too dark to sse, There were a number of DVDs available to watch which we took advantage of. The next morining we we met with a nich breakfasts and suggestions for vineyards we couod squeez in pior to our flght out of Napir.

On arrival Jill made us very welcome with tea and home made fare served on the balcony as she chatted and got to know us. The house has fantastic views over Hawkes Bay. We stayed in the Bayview Room which was beautifully appointed with a separate dressing area and huge bathroom and a very comfortable bed and a balcony overlooking the bay. Our friends stayed in the Look Out room which was also very comfortable. There was a complimentary bottle of local wine in both our fridges which was delicious. Jill's enthusiasm for her home and the local area is infectious. In the morning Jill came running up the stairs to tell us that there was a pod of Orcas in the bay and we were lucky enough to have an excellent breakfast while watching them play and hunt , one of the highlights of our month long holiday in NZ. Our biggest regret is that we only had one night to sample Jill and Allens wonderful hospitality. A must stay for our next visit to NZ. The room was the best of the many during our month long trip.
