We spent the last few days of our month-long trip here. We called ahead and talked to the manager, agreed on a good price for a 2-bedroom suite, and that was the price we were charged. The manager was very helpful advising us of places to see and things to do. We decided to use one of their grills to cook some steaks we bought at a nearby butcher shop. I also got a good haircut nearby, and bought some nice shirts at Prebbles. Toured Napier, saw our first live Kiwi birds, and visited the nearby Mission Winery (great place for lunch). Our room was nice, and I think we actually had two baths. We were there only two days after the tragic earthquake in Christchurch, so we had many somber moments. The hotel is a short drive to Napier, and we thought Taradale was a neat town to walk through. We don't have many small towns like that here in the States. Most of our shopping has moved outside the towns to the 'big box' stores... We were able to extend our stay here by a day since I was waiting for my camera equipment to be shipped from Picton. Again, the staff manager (Tim?) was very helpful in assisting us. I thought this hotel was a good value and we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: The upstairs suite in the back was nice and quiet

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding at The Old Church, which is a five minute drive from the motel. The website stated a studio suite was from $120 a night, but we were quoted $150. I wasn't particularly happy about the price, but went ahead with the booking anyway, as the rooms looked nice and the location was great for getting to and from the wedding.

Our room was a very small downstairs studio right next to the owner's accommodation. We could hear the reception call buzzer through the wall, and people in the upstairs room walking round. The bathroom has a weird open shower that has no curtain or any means to stop water going EVERYWHERE. Due to this, the wood under the basin has paint peeling off it, which looks untidy, and water pools behind the toilet and doesn't drain away unless you actually mop it up.

For $150 a night, I would've expected much better.

After an uneventful stay, the price of the room at check out was higher than advertised and was disputed this. The receptionist came to an agreement with us to charge a slightly lower price as a gesture of good will. 2 weeks later the credit card was charged again to make up the full price of the room which was disputed. Phone calls to the owner were answered and when the issued was raised, were rudely hung up on. I would definitely not reccommend this place to anyone, ever.

Check prices thoroughly and request email confirmation before you stay here.

We received none and when we went to pay we discovered the ‘rate’ was higher than we believed we were quoted. With no formal record of quotation, no copy of our check-in form (on which the price was filled in on a separate occasion in a different pen) we questioned the rate. The discussion was never heated but the owner became increasingly condescending and rude, accusing us of “trying it on” and told us the rooms have NEVER been rented at the rate we believed we were quoted – despite this being clearly advertised on their website. We were accused of being rude as the Manageress “had to listen to us” and because I requested a photocopy of the check-in form. Needless to say our quote was not honoured and feedback that confirmation might be a good idea was scoffed at.

Otherwise rooms basic. Not a central location – car essential, nowhere to walk to, 20 mins drive from Napier. Much nicer accommodation avail. within 1km for a better price. Don't bother with the headache!!

Is in Taradale so away from the noise of main roads and waterfront. Breakfast was great and room nicely set up with balcony. Bathroom a little dated with chips. Room was clean except for long dark strands of hair left in bathroom I assume from the cleaner, was rather obvious on the white floors. (Especially since I am blond). Owners were polite. Bonus is room has air conditioning.
