Stayed here for 3 nights whilst on a business trip. The room i had was spacious, warm, very clen and had every amenity you could wish for. Lovely extra little touches such as free WiFi, free decent plunger coffee from a local bean roasters, ample hangers, mini bar, microwave etc etc. The toiletries here are not your run of the mill generic motel supply stuff either, but enviromentally friendly and locally sourced. There's a real green push going on here, not just the normal hang your towel up so we don't have to wash it routine. The hosts are friendly and chatty with heaps of advice on what to do, see and most importantly where's good to eat. There is a great pub next door and there is also a great Indian and Thai restaurant within 10 min walk from the motel. Make sure you check with the owners that you get the right ones Red Chill and Thai Lotus as there are a couple of each in town. Taradale is a lovely spot and I really hope I can wrangle a trip to come back and stay here again soon.

Owners are really terrific. They showed a sincere interest in what we liked to do and presented options for us that we never would have otherwise considered, but were among the highlights of our trip (Te Mata Peak and stopover on our way to Wellington). This was no doubt made more difficult by the fact that we are perhaps the only tourists ever to visit Hawke's Bay who aren't wine aficionados. Much to the owners' dismay, we weren't interested in visiting the eateries and wineries that the region is known for.

Our travel agent had built our Napier experience around the Art Deco district and waterfront that were not close by at all. Therefore, some of our disappointment arose when we realized that this motel was in the middle of a tired residential area/school zone that offered little in the way of charm. Getting downtown required a stressful drive through countless roundabouts and one way streets.

The rooms themselves are more than adequate with big comfortable beds and plenty of room to move around. The bathroom was large and we had no problem with the lack of shower stall or curtain.

Rooms come with patios, but those patios for rooms on the second floor overlook the parking lot. Those on the first floor are actually in the parking lot. The doors to the second floor rooms are actually on the other side of the room. While closest views were neighbors' back yards, the hills that surround the area at large were really quite nice in the light of morning.

In the end, this is a clean place with friendly staff in a so-so area. I think if we were wine lovers we would have liked it better. Those interested in the architecture might be better served closer to town.

Room Tip: Stay on the second floor to avoid having a patio in the parking lot.

The place itself is not too bad but how hard is it to get shower curtains? It was really annoying.
Not the kind of place I would go if I was wanting to treat myself but fair for the price.
Restaurant next door isn't nice so do look further on for good food.
The people who were running it were quite nice. Was a good location to be while touring around the local vineyards though but was made out to be a luxury motel but was not "luxury" sorry.
3 & half stars - not a 'very good' but alright.

Another great stay at the Ballina the past week for work. Enjoy the clean and tidy rooms with everything you need. Very comfy beds are the best! The hosts, as always, make the stay extra special with helping you out with dinner and tourism bookings when you need it - always friendly and great to have a chat with - lots of good local knowledge they can tell you all the 'off the beaten track' things to do which is awesome.
Great place to stay, especially in this hot weather with fantastic air conditioning that you can get to the perfect temperature.... (have also stayed here in winter and the heat pump in each room is amazing!)
Highly recommend this place again - I will be back on my next work trip!! (Or a weekend away!)

Room Tip: Rooms are quiet without noise from the road pollution, its in Taradale so not on that main strip of...

Clean, comfortable rooms. The rooms are modern. We thought the service was good.. I would stay here again for sure if I was in the area. The bathroom shower wasn't a huge issue for me, at least it is clean and new inside. It's not like like you are paying $400 a night to stay here or anything.

Room Tip: I would ask for a second floor room, if possible.

Stayed here for two nights, found the suite very clean and modern. Staff were helpful and friendly. Our stay included a free wine tour and a cheeseboard. The only thing I would say that wasn't that great was the shower. No shower curtain, a lot of wet floor!

What makes the Ballina Motel special is our small size allows us to focus on those important little details and provide personal service to ensure that your stay is both a relaxing and memorable experience.
